I have used Thriftbooks for years...I am generally looking for old used books. As long as they are readable I am okay with whatever they send. This last time, however, after I ordered I realized I already had one of the books. I immediately canceled the order...within minutes. It was late Friday night so I was thinking the cancelation would be accepted. Woke up to emails and texts saying my order was being processed. What? From the point I ordered to the point they declined my cancelation was 20 minutes. The reason the cancelation was declined was because the order was already processed....but the order processing emails/txts showed up at 8 am the next morning. This all seems extremely scammy to me. Lesson...order cancelation is non-existent...and triple check your inventory before hitting the place order button.

I’m so disappointed. I have been looking for a couple of books in hardcover for years now. I came across this site with great Google reviews. Yet I still looked at other sites every thrift shop I went to and nothing. I just wanted to see it in person as my “good” or “very good” condition may not be the same standards as a website. In the end I finally did it and purchased the 2 books in hardcover from ThriftBooks. Ordering, setting up an account, choosing which format I wanted all super easy and straightforward. The confirmation came, the shipping info came the estimated date of delivery was shown. The package even came early! And I was so excited to Finally have these 2 hard cover books (I only collect this authors hardcover books- all others I have on my kindle) only reason I don’t have these in hardcover is because years ago when I started reading again I found this set of books on sale and didn’t know I was going to absolutely love this author and all her books. Anyway, I’m excited to open this package. I even bought a couple other books (you know free shipping add ons) only to be completely disappointed in receiving paperback books in not so “good” or “very good” conditions. The cover on one is super faded on each end of the book. On the other there are stickers other than ThriftBooks and sticky residue from previously removed stickers, but the coloring is ok. I can actually deal with that and get the sticky off. But it’s still the fact that I specifically ordered hardcover books! I’m so sad. It’s the little things that make me happy and this was a big fail.
I also went on the site right away to start the return/refund process and it states none of my books are eligible for return. That’s probably my fault as I should have been more aware of the return policy when purchasing so that’s not the issue at all. I just really wanted hardcover to complete my collection.

I got a random $5.86 charge to my account. Thrift books stole $5.86 after taking a payment for an order. Watch your account!

I've had issues with receiving the incorrect edition/cover of books and having returns or exchanges denied by them repeatedly. They claim they use stock photos as the picture and sell books by ISBN. The issue with that is 1) it's misleading to customers if the photo they are seeing are not lining up with the ISBN number (also, who is researching outside of the website which edition is which ISBN before purchasing? It should be buyer friendly) 2) if editions of books have the same ISBN number you have no clue buying used or new what one you're purchasing.
If you're buying new from them, for the most part, you'll be fine. If you're buying used beware. I'll probably never buy from them again since I would never purchase used books.
I used to recommend this company to other book people in library sale lines, book clubs, booktube/booktok people, but I'm not going to anymore. I'd warn them to stay away.

I wrote earlier that the previous owner had written a comment on the inside of the back over. It’s much worse. I am halfway through the book and it’s peppered with comments, opinions and more. Before sending a used book it’s important that you check for this sort of thing.

I’m very thankful for the excellent experience with ThriftBooks. They are professional, reliable, and offer great pricing. The books always arrive promptly and are in great condition, exactly as described. It’s wonderful to find a service that makes buying books affordable and convenient. Highly recommended!

Very punctual and thrifty.

I ordered a book with free shipping. The book I ordered was not the one I received. They sent me a book that clearly had a $2.99 sticker on the back but they charged me $7.99. That's $5.00 more than I owed. It was also not the condition I ordered.

I try to support anyone who is NOT Amazon, on principle, but it takes a LOT longer to get stuff from Thrift Books. Sometimes they are a bit cheaper, other times not.
The problem appears to be their choice of mail carrier - the bottleneck this time for me was OSM Worldwide, who must be the slowest and most inefficient carrier around.
As the books all eventually end up in the hands of USPS anyway for most people, why not just use them from the start? I understand that Thrift Books won't get the same volume discount that Amazon get, but by trying to claw for tiny margins from cheaper mailing, I fear that Thrift Books is going to lose the war...

"This is a company that relies so heavily on terms and conditions portion within the sales agreement, they refuse returns even when return shipping is paid by purchaser.

As such I advocate to avoid the temptation of purely low cost website, we (all) need to support businesses that are interested in customer service, not those which rely upon tight language to avoid any resemblance of customer satisfaction." My order is 2+weeks in transit, and they refused to accept it, unopened and returned me paying shipping cost.

Bought one item, get spam.emails sometimes multiple times a day for weeks afterwards.

Quick delivery of books I wanted. This is my second order of new books from Thrift, which I recommend highly.

I ordered 5 books, payed, but only received 1.
I sent Emails to the company, never received an answer.

Quality of customer care on the decline. They do not read questions and comments, misunderstanding customer concerns. Confirmation of orders by email no longer exists. Tracking system is on the decline.
A few years ago, I had no complaints, but now I can only say the books are cheap and there is a large variety.

they stole my money and never send me the book. this website is not save, DO NO BUY ANYTHING IN THIS SITE. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED

An order was placed by mistake so I emailed immediately after (within 5 minutes). I was contacted a few hours later saying that it couldn't be cancelled since it was already in process, but I could reach out later to return the item. Exact quote: (Unfortunately, we cannot cancel this order as it has already been acknowledged by our third-party new book vendor. Once you receive the item, you may return it using our Returns Portal.) Now I'm being told that they will not accept any returns. Biggest issue is I've already bought something else based on the assurance that I could get refunded. Learn from my mistake, but don't trust whatever their customer service tells you. I've had no issues with returns from other book vendors before so maybe look somewhere with better policy and support.

Often books are sold as better than they actually are. This is common now with purchasing books on line where you can’t pick it up. Look at it smell it or in any way shape for verified that the spine is solid. There’s no mold damage. The dust jacket is in the condition claimed.

I’m out of breath

The fact is that when you go looking for a good book, if you want one to keep be very wary of ThriftBooks. If you want, want to just read and toss on your shelf or to a library book exchange, then I would highly recommend ThriftBooks otherwise, you may want to think about taking your business elsewhere.

A few years ago I would have not hesitated to recommend thriftbooks but over the past couple of years it's been one issue after another. Books are not in the condition they say they are going to be in, on three occasions I've had them ship the incorrect book. Most recently I bought a book on presale, and even though it said it was in stock I was informed that it was on back order. It's been in stock for 3 months but I keep getting told it's back ordered, and they eventually just canceled it. Absolutely incompetence and unprofessional.

I ordered an expensive "coffee table" book from them for $70. It was described as new/mint condition. Book arrived deeply damaged, both the dust jacket and the book cover itself had very deep gouges in it, which they knew when they sent it to me. So much for displaying it proudly on my coffee table!! Will not buy from them again.
