A Disappointing Experience – Privacy and Compassion Fell Short
We paid a significant amount of money to stay at this resort, specifically choosing a room with a private pool so I could enjoy my privacy with my family, wear what I wanted and relax without having to dress modestly in my own space. This is one of the key things the resort prides itself on offering its guests.
I took the correct precautions by activating the electronic Do Not Disturb sign, yet a cleaner still entered our private space, and I had to ask them to leave. The resort itself acknowledged that I had taken the appropriate precautions.
As a Muslim woman who covers for religious and personal reasons, this was deeply distressing. I paid for a space where I could feel comfortable and protected, and that privacy was violated despite doing everything I could to prevent it.
Unfortunately, the way the resort handled the situation afterwards only added to my disappointment. I was initially apologised to and told an investigation would take place after our stay. Following emails, I received another apology and was told staff training would take place, but no meaningful resolution was offered until I raised my frustration again.
Eventually, I was offered two complimentary days at the resort. I live in the UK, have a seven-month-old baby and would need to travel over 10 hours for a two-day stay. I explained why this was impractical, yet the resort remained firm that this was all they were willing to offer. I found this response incredibly disappointing and lacking in compassion.
Mistakes can happen, but how a business responds matters. I expected accountability, understanding and a genuine effort to put things right. Instead, I was left feeling unheard, as though I had to keep justifying why the situation was so upsetting and why their proposed solution was unsuitable.
I am sharing my experience because privacy should be more than a selling point; it should be a promise guests can trust. For those choosing private-pool accommodation for religious, cultural or personal reasons, this matters enormously.
Sadly, the incident itself was upsetting, but the lack of compassion and meaningful resolution from start to finish left me equally disappointed. I expected better from a resort that places so much emphasis on privacy.
