I rented a car for nearly 80 days and had nothing else than problems, bad service when collecting the car at the airport and when the car broke down I had an extra 1000 USD to pay for all the hassle, in overheads. Never again Alamo and Enterprise.

They charged me twice on my credit card

They charged me twice on my credit card. I pointed this out at the time of picking up the car but they said it's fine it'll all settle. Sure enough however, both charges have gone through and customer support are not coming back to me. I'm having to raise it as a dispute on my credit card. It's a shame because otherwise the rental experience was good, but this is unacceptable.

Never again alamo

After I returned the vehicle, Alamo claimed I had caused damage to it and immediately withheld 400 euros from my security deposit. Judging by the reviews here, this seems to be standard practice. I have been trying to get in touch with an Alamo CZ manager for weeks, but so far, I’ve had no luck. I have now engaged legal counsel. NEVER AGAIN with Alamo.

UGH.

Had a good experience with them in York. No issues. Got to Edinburgh and they wouldn't let me pay with my Visa travel card - the same card i'd used in York!!!! No alternatives offered as they wouldn't take a non-physical card. Day ruined. Pre-purchased tickets wasted. Would not use again.

Customer Service Doesn't Know !

I am 75 y/o and had 3 other senior travelers with me. My Southwest flight was delayed so that arrival in Jacksonville was going to be after the closing time of the Alamo rental counter. I talked to three differnent corporate agents. Two said that I would have to stay overnight and pick up the car the next morning. The other agent said that they would wait for me. All three were incorrect as they were not aware of the SOP at Jacksonville. At closing time Alamo turns into Enterprise and stays open much later. I was always going to be able to get the car, but I needlessly worried about how to handle the situation at 1am. The left hand did not know what the right hand was doing. This is total incompetence and chaos for the customer. As a former Director of Operations and CFO, I can assure you that in my organization heads would roll!

Issues started at the garage picking up…

Issues started at the garage picking up the car. The guy at the garage started yelling at me because I wasn't pulling out. The car had an auto shut off and I couldn't get it in gear. This could have been explained to me, but the guy just walked away after he drove the car 50' past us to the door. The car had less then 1/2 tank of gas but I have to provide a full tank at return??? Front window inside was soo dirty I couldn't see out and no window washer fluid for the outside. Now customer service tells me I'm making this all up because it wasn't documented.

Dayton International airport

Don't rent a car as a citizen outside the US at Dayton International airport by Alamo/Enterprise. The manager(Steve(n) and his boss has own rules and that you must have an international driverslicense. We rent for 18 years by this company and never had problems. But here you don't get a car without the int. drivers license. He was arrogant and no empathy that our journey across the US ends here if we don't get a car. He also was not nice against his personel, We do get a car from Enterprise dowtown.

Avoid if you have children/ like good customer service

We booked an Alamo rental at Orlando International Airport (MCO), including child car seats, for our family trip. What followed was by far the worst car-hire experiences we’ve had.

The child car seat provided could not safely be used. Staff initially refused to fit it, and when we attempted to resolve the issue ourselves, we tried three different seats and found that they were incomplete and/or could not safely be used. We were travelling with a young child, so this was not a minor inconvenience — it was a fundamental safety issue.

We raised this with the manager at MCO. With no safe alternative available, we were directly offered a full refund as the resolution because the rental could not safely be used as booked. We accepted that offer and left the airport on that understanding. I also have video evidence of the refund being offered.

Because we had no safe way of using the rental, we had to make alternative travel arrangements and were left out of pocket.

The problems didn’t end there. When I subsequently contacted Alamo, I was told that the refund had been processed and would take 3–5 working days. I was given a refund reference. When that period passed and no money arrived, I contacted Alamo again and was then told that the refund hadn’t actually been processed, despite previously being told that it had.

I was told it was now being processed. I have since tried again through Alamo’s online chat, only to receive a generic response saying that it could take another 10–15 business days.

So I am now having to repeatedly chase Alamo for a refund that their own manager agreed to at the airport.

The original safety issue is concerning enough, but the subsequent handling of the refund has made the experience considerably worse. I should never have had to chase this in the first place, let alone repeatedly.

I am trying to formally raise the safety concerns but there seems to be no channel to do so.

Alamo: I am not asking for anything unreasonable. You offered and agreed a full refund because the rental could not safely be used. Please return the money and provide a proper response to the safety concerns.

No cars and didn't care

Reserved a car at HPN airport. Got there and they had "no cars" and shrugged and said sorry. No solution and left us stranded along with others, so hard to get ubers. Called alamo that night and early the next day twice more. Each time they promised a manager would call "right away" with an alternate car. and asked me to keep my phone close. No call; ever. If they can treat a customer like this why ever use them?

***Don't use Alamo with your family!***

***Don't use Alamo with your family!***

Our experience with Alamo was appalling.

Our rental vehicle developed a serious fault while we were travelling through an extremely remote part of California with our two young children. Temperatures were extreme, mobile signal disappeared for long stretches, and part of the underside of the vehicle had come loose and was scraping along the road.

We were genuinely worried about being stranded in extreme heat with two children and no phone signal.

This is exactly the situation where you expect a major rental company’s roadside assistance to step in. Instead, Alamo completely failed us when we actually needed them.

We called roadside assistance repeatedly. We were given conflicting information by different agents. Help was promised and didn’t arrive. Callbacks didn’t happen. Eventually we were effectively left to sort the problem out ourselves.

We lost a significant part of our family holiday dealing with a problem that should never have become ours to solve.

I then complained formally and gave Alamo plenty of opportunity to put things right privately. Weeks later, despite chasing them, the complaint remains unresolved - they are claiming a 3rd party deals with it.

And then, unbelievably, we received a $58.45 charge for a “flat tire”. We never had a flat tire.
That was the final straw.

A vehicle developing a fault is one thing. Failing to support a family stranded in a remote area, failing to properly resolve the complaint afterwards, and then charging us for something that did not happen is another entirely.

Based on our experience, I would not trust Alamo again and I certainly would not use them for a family road trip or anywhere remote.

If you're considering Alamo because you assume a large international rental company will be there when something goes wrong, our experience was the exact opposite.

Frankfurt-Hahn

Frankfurt-Hahn. 3 hours waiting for a car which was reserved and deposit was paid. Manager had his phone switched off during opening hours, no solution was offered!

After I got home deduction from my credit card without any communication! 524,37€. more then a month later and incorrect invoice with amounts not as on the signed rental contract. A week after that an invoice for a 3 cm scratch 1200€ + 85€ service charges.

Sent them letters. The damage invoice was cancelled directly without any proof. On the rest up to now (2 and half month after the rental) still no reply! And they still have my money!

Have issued a police report now and sent it to the credit card company because they do not reply to anything!

All with all a horrible experience renting with them for the first time in my life.

Fuss free car hire with Alamo

Load of moany minnie's on here. I hired a car in Dubrovnik, from Alamo, and returned it to Split Airport. It was a smooth, efficient, problem free experience. Staff were brilliant, so quick I struggled to keep up. No up selling, just fuss free car rental.

I had a great price, so wasn't surprised that the car was a bit knocked about. No problem who cares. I just made sure I photographed everything, to avoid any problems when handing it in.

No problem recommending Alamo, based on my experience.

Hired a car at Orlando airport

Hired a car at Orlando airport. Had a flat tyre after driving it for 3 hours. Luckily made it to the hotel.
Was promised car to be picked up and us to be taken to the airport in Savannah to get a replacement car. Waited for 3 hours for both, never materialised.
Finally paid for an uber ourselves the following day to the airport.
They didn’t want to give us the replacement as the broken down car hadn’t been picked up yet.
They didn’t in the end after lots of tears from me as had to get to a wedding.
Was promised vouchers for the inconvenience’, which never materialised.
The whole experience was lie after lie.
Don’t touch, go with someone more reliable!!

Scammers!!

Scammers!!

They will take your deposit, and accuse of damaging the car to take your deposit. If you don't notice, and if you don't send 100 mails, make 100 calls, you won't get your deposit back. Super deceptive company, avoid it!!

Do not trust this company

When we collected our vehicle at Munich airport, the car had numerous scratches and dents, which were not mentioned on the rental agreement. We reported these to Alamo and took pictures before leaving the airport. On our return, Alamo tried to scam us by stating that they were going to invoice us 1,400 euros for this damage.
Luckily we had the photos that we took and disputed this invoice. Despite chasing them, we received no further communication from Alamo for over a week and we had no idea if they would take the money so we had to block our bank card. Eventually we got through to Alamo and they closed the case. But what would have happened if we didn’t have the photos. I hate to think how many people have been scammed in this manner. Do not trust this company.

Charged for damage that was not present on drop off

I have just had a terrible experience with Alamo at Carcassone airport in France. I returned the car without any damage, but no one was available to check the car with me. Two days later I received a €2,000 charge on my credit card, with no details. This morning I have received one line which states “Driver’s front door scratcand alignement”. No evidence was provided and when I left the car I could see no damage. Sadly this is not the first time a hire car company has attempted to get me to pay for damage that wasn’t present on a car I have hired. Utterly contemptible and basically theft.

UPDATE - After speaking with a very helpful customer service person I found out that the damage they have charged me for was recorded before my contract started and that my contract was closed with a no damage report!

People might like to be aware of EU consumer rules agreed by car rental companies which states that when it comes to damages:
Clear procedure for vehicle inspection. Consumers will be provided with reasons and evidence of any damage, before the payment is taken.
Fair damage handling processes. The consumer is given the chance to challenge any damage before the payment is taken.
This includes “providing written statements, photos, and cost breakdowns if they claim damage occurred during your rental period”

Alamo are clearly in breach of these rules
