The need for verification with a photo is an innovative way to combat scammers, an issue on sites like eBay. Hell, I've seen photos from Swappa sellers on eBay selling the product at inflated prices. Great website that is a great place for sellers and buyers alike.

Swappa Does NOT Protect Buyers — Be Extremely Careful Before Purchasing

I strongly advise buyers to think twice before purchasing high-value electronics through Swappa. My personal experience has been extremely disappointing, and I am now having to fight to recover my money after receiving an item completely different from what I purchased.

I purchased an iPhone 18 Pro Max 256GB, expecting to receive the phone advertised by the seller. Instead, I received a package containing trading cards — not a phone. This is not a minor discrepancy or a misunderstanding; the item I received was completely different from the product I paid for.

There are several serious red flags in this transaction. The seller advertised shipping from New York, but the package I actually received originated in Canada. Furthermore, the UPS shipping label identifies the contents as trading cards, not an iPhone, and the package weighed approximately one pound. These details contradict the product I purchased and raise serious concerns about this transaction.

When I contacted Swappa for assistance, I was told that they do not physically inspect listings or devices and cannot guarantee that the items advertised are actually what buyers receive. I was essentially told that physically verifying every listing is too difficult for them and that I should pursue a refund through PayPal instead.

This response is extremely concerning. If a marketplace allows sellers to advertise expensive electronics without physically verifying the products, what meaningful protection does a buyer have when the item received is completely different from the one purchased?

Swappa directed me to PayPal rather than providing a meaningful resolution or taking responsibility for investigating the transaction through its own platform. I am now having to go through the dispute process to recover my money, despite having evidence that the package contained something entirely different from the iPhone I ordered.

Buyers should not have to bear the full burden of investigating transactions like this. A marketplace that facilitates high-value sales should take these situations seriously, investigate suspicious transactions, and hold sellers accountable when the products delivered do not match their listings.

My experience has seriously undermined my trust in Swappa. I expected to purchase a smartphone through a marketplace specializing in used electronics, but instead I received trading cards and was directed elsewhere to resolve the problem.

Before buying an expensive phone through Swappa, understand that, based on my experience, you may be left dealing with the payment provider yourself if something goes wrong.

I would strongly reconsider using this platform for high-value purchases until its buyer protection and seller accountability processes provide greater confidence and meaningful support.

Posting my phone for sale on this site was not a pleasant experience. Their platform makes the task unbearable and unpleasant. Their staff created a process that made the listing impossible to navigate, the support from the company is NON-EXISTENT! It's 100% automated, with zero humans providing any support. I would NEVER use this platform to do any business through this company, and I would never advise anyone to do so.

I really appreciate how clear and easy it is to shop for specific phones and compare them to each other.

I have made a few purchases and sold a couple of items on Swappa over the years. When in the market for something specific, I always check Swappa items for sale. Any transaction has been handled properly by Swappa as well as the seller. The products have always been as described and sold at a fair price. I trust the Swappa system.

Have bought multiple cell phones and tablets throughout the years through swappa. Always great. Haven't had a bad or even mediocre experience yet. Know youre buying used devices and understand the price is right.

This was my second purchase of a device from Swappa. In both cases, I was able to filter to just the device I was looking for, including how it looked, how much memory, etc. From there the process was straight forward with no problems.

I use swappa for all my used electronic needs, buy and sell. It has never disappointed me!

I attempted to sell a phone through Swappa and began filling out their online form. I wasn't able to locate the model number because I had already reset the phone to factory settings. I called Apple Support and neither of the two places where model numbers are located externally were visible on my phone. My local Xfinity store was also unable to find it. To submit the Swappa sales form I randomly chose one of the three model options on the drop-down menu, then identified the actual model number in the description. Swappa kept rejecting the form submission, and I tried repeatedly to get help in resolving this issue. The canned answer was always the same - they need the model number. I returned to the Xfinity store - no answers there either. I even began the set-up process on the phone, but the model number in Settings was different than the three options on the Swappa form. I finally found someone at the Xfinity store who knew where the hidden model number was in Settings, but when I attempted to submit my online form I found that Swappa has suspended my account. I clicked the link to appeal and received the message that a rep would get back to me, usually within 20 min ("That's fast!" they say). I waited two days , then tried replying to one of the original communications, but that also went unanswered. It appears that they either just got tired of dealing with me or have written me off as a scammer. My first contact with Swappa "help" was on October 7 and my account was suspended on October 9. I have not heard from them since, and it is now October 13.
