Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 537 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about skyrocketing prices, unexpected rate increases shortly after signing up, and heavy financial burdens placed on ordinary households. People also struggled significantly with unhelpful customer support teams, rude representatives, and exceptionally long waiting times on the phone when trying to resolve complicated claims. Some reviewers were happy with the initial setup process and found certain individual agents genuinely helpful when discussing general policies. Some consumers also noted that their basic policy coverage and early administrative interactions successfully met their initial expectations before major service issues arose.

I work for a medical provider and called Progressive... after being on hold for 40 minutes I got the rudest rep on the phone (NICOLE) the way she spoke to me was downright very unprofessional as if I was the most bothersome human on earth... All I was asking for was a claim number for a new patient of ours. Just ridiculous. DO BETTER!!

NEGATIVE

NEGATIVE, NEGATIVE NEGATIVE!! Extremely Disappointing Experience with Progressive

Progressive: Absolutely Horrible Insurance Company

Progressive has been a nightmare from start to finish. Six months of delays, missed appointments, no-shows, poor communication, and absolutely terrible customer service. My hail-damaged windshield and vehicle damage from a hit-and-run have gone without proper resolution. I pay approximately $200 a month for insurance, yet I have had to fight for basic service and accountability. My experience with CHAD QUANDT and JESSICA REID has been extremely disappointing. No urgency, no accountability, and no satisfactory resolution. In my experience, Progressive has been one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. I would strongly discourage anyone from trusting this company with their insurance needs.

Horrible company

Horrible company. Horrible experience. My military daughter in law has my address for mailing and they added her to my policy WITHOUT PERMISSION and when I went to cancel the policy they REFUSED to waive the balance saying that is was MY FAULT that I didnt send a piece of paper in. I will NEVER use this company again and will urge and warn EVERYONE I KNOW to do the same. Worst experience with an insurance company in my life. They are robbing me of more then $150 for someone who is not even in the same state as me. I am so disappointed in their lack of customer service. Will NEVER use them again. Pathetic company.

Non transparent payment amounts

Agreed to a policy at one price and then 3 months later they raised the price by almost $100 more. Refused any help and did not provide notification of the change, they just charged my card more.

I canceled my policy in August and I was supposed to be issued a refund check. As if this writing, I have yet to receive it and all four representatives have stated the same to wait a week. It’s been two months. I will never go back to progressive.

Extremely disappointed with…

Extremely disappointed with Progressive’s handling of my claim. Instead of feeling supported when I needed my insurance, I felt like excuses were being made to deny my claim rather than help resolve the situation. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and has seriously damaged my trust in Progressive.

Lack of communication claim…

Lack of communication claim #26-759051088, another horrible experience with a non responsive team. I was suppose to get a rent a car, then the place was closed then, no mention they closed at 12 on Saturday they never responded on 10.9.26.Scott the adjuster never called: Now let’s see what Chris the supervisor says he will reach out to KATHLEEN ~who knew her again and the last time no communication when , where and what time the estimate will be completed no text no call until I have to complain about people not doing their jobs!!

The adjuster Haley and her team-can't pin point a time when my husband truck estimate will be completed. They expect someone to stay at home all day on their day off, 10.12.26~ I have to be at work in Elkhart daily and NO word when they while complete my estimates last time the took for ever to get to the body shop to review the damages after it was taken apart then I had to wait 3 weeks and turn my car back in to get fixed because Lexus parts are on back order. I want a supervisor to call me and I'm done with Progressive!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After complaining they came out and handled my complaint with no problem!! GRE

Progressive's IT has our account locked!

Progressive's IT has had us locked out for a week now. No one can give me a reason why or when it will "unlock"! We cannot get quotes on adding drivers. We are a business and need to know the cost. This is unacceptable and ridiculous! They sure don't have us "locked out" for debiting our monthly premium!

Unscrupulous and Greedy

My friends are senior citizens who have many health problems and who are uninformed, and Progressive took advantage of them by charging excessive premiums that had been going up for some 7-8 years (reaching $700 for a 6-month premium for their 1 car) until they finally switched to State Farm and saved over $200.
When I called Progressive trying to reason with them looking for decency and compassion, they replied, "Your friend didn't have to keep our insurance and could switch anytime."

The only thing that is Progressive about them is their premiums.

SHAME ON YOU, PROGREESIVE!

Stay as far away from this company as…

Stay as far away from this company as you can! Have a weather related roof leak which destroyed parts of my ceiling and was treated by progressive like a criminal every. Step. Of. The. Way. As a disabled veteran it is difficult for me to get to my attic to show these folks what's going on and I certainly can't get on my roof which has a very dangerous pitch, even for roofers. Nevertheless, we've paid our premiums early and without argument every cycle. Yet Progressive chose to challenge EVERYTHING we stated and asked. So much so that even when I was asked by a desk adjuster if I had questions he began to argue with me and hung up the phone on me without a reason, all because I was asking questions about how they came to their "findings". I am switching companies quick!!! Do not use progressive! Ever!

Progressive gave me until October 19th…

Progressive gave me until October 19th to submit vehicle photos for my policy verification. Instead, they canceled my policy in less than 24 hours, well before the deadline they set. I had the photos ready and was working on getting them in the format they requested. No reason was given in the cancellation email. I was told I'd receive a reason by mail after the fact. When I reached out to their underwriting team, I got an automated response saying they'd review my message in 7 to 10 business days. So I had a deadline, but they don't give themselves one. My quote was $200 less than what I was paying before, and I can't help but feel they used this verification process as an excuse to cancel rather than honor it. Dishonest and unfair. I would not recommend Progressive to anyone.

Total failure in accessibility and communication for a disabled veteran

As a disabled veteran who struggles with hearing and information processing, I explicitly requested email correspondence from Progressive. I needed a written paper trail to review their claims at my own pace. Progressive accused me of using my vehicle for business purposes—which was entirely false—but when I asked for the specific evidence behind these claims, my direct questions were completely ignored.
Instead of accommodating my communication needs, their delayed response instructed me to call an automated text-to-voice system. They completely failed to provide reasonable accessibility accommodations, refused to back up their accusations with proof, and offered zero transparency. Instead of fighting their poor customer service, I took my business elsewhere and hired a local independent agent. Progressive drastically needs to train its team on communication accessibility and veteran support.

If I could give zero star

If I could give zero star, I would. Progressive and the company they send you too act like you dont have any choice but to use them. Takes a week to even get in. Then you drop it off and they dont even get to it. Took it somewhere else cuz I need to know if its totalled or not so i can work. Every day we get a message adjuster will put it top priority and get to it tomorrow. Thats been a week and a half. So im losing my paycheck. They could care less. I hit a deer years ago with geico, it was taken care of in 2 days. They need to hire more adjusters if they cant give customer service.

Snapshot device seems to have drained my battery.

Progressive worked well, but did not give enough information regarding the power requirements of the "snapshot" device. The device drained my battery. I plugged it in when I got the device, and when I wanted to use the care a few days later the battery was drained.

There should be a clear statement about the power consumption on standby. This was absent. It probably would not have happened if I used the care every day for a sufficiently long drive, and/or the battery were in very good shape. I'm especially critical about the lack of information, and lack of warning that that device may not be for those who might leave the care unused for several days.

Progressive is less than a bad insurance company.

Last year I had a claim on my travel trailer that had a damaged roof. It was denied do to " not having a yearly roof inspection done." Funny. I had just had a leak repaired by the dealer. They were willing to pay for a ruined mattress. I was very upset, chewed the adjuster out....they denied it all. Told me to hire a lawyer if I didn't like it. 5 months ago I let my grand daughter borrow my car. She had an accident and two cars totaled. They tried to say I was supposed to have her on my policy. She doesn't live with me. I finally DID have to hire a lawyer. New adjuster took over and suddenly they payed, 4 months later. They are despicable. If all the employees were in the same office this wouldn't have happened. Ridiculous. They've supposedly paid my loan but bank hasn't seen a cent. Progressive talks a good game but it's all talk.

The agents are really nice to speak to, but...

The agents are really nice to speak to, although many times they are not helpful at all. Their portal is one of the worst pieces of data i ever laid my eyes upon. It constantly glitches and crashes in the worst possible moments without saving your quote progress. There were times when I saved a quote only to return later and see that the price increased by a few hundred bucks how is that even fair. SHAME ON YOU! PLEASE FIX YOUR WEBSITE AND DON'T TORTURE PEOPLE ANYMORE.
