Follow-up: Catawiki's public statements contradict its customer support response
This is a follow-up to my recent review of Catawiki from 9 October 2026.
In its public response to my review, Catawiki acknowledged that there is a significant difference between ordinary import duties, which are the buyer's responsibility, and excessive customs clearance costs resulting from the seller's choice of carrier. It explicitly stated that sellers are responsible for ensuring that their chosen shipping service can complete standard delivery to a private recipient in the destination country.
Catawiki also encouraged me to contact customer support again so that its Support Management and Disputes teams could re-evaluate the situation and work towards an equitable outcome.
I followed that advice and opened another support ticket. Unfortunately, the response I received was as follows:

Dear Pablo,
We are getting back to you regarding the review you’ve given for your purchase: XXXXXXXXXX
After revising all the information available, we have decided that:
This review has been removed because the seller cannot be held accountable for import taxes, which are strictly the buyer's responsibility. These fees are governed by international import law and apply whenever items are imported from outside Europe, it is not a rule created by Catawiki, though it is clearly stated in our buyer guidelines.
Refusing to pay customs fees results in the package being returned to the seller. While I am truly sorry if these additional charges came as a surprise, the seller is not at fault for these mandatory customs fees.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

I find this response extremely disappointing and confusing.
Catawiki's public response and its customer support response address fundamentally different issues. I have never disputed that import VAT and standard customs duties may be the buyer's responsibility. My complaint concerns the additional €400–€500 in customs brokerage fees that FedEx required to clear an item worth just €80, due to carrier-specific limitations.
In its public response, Catawiki explicitly acknowledged that such circumstances go beyond standard import duties and may represent a logistical barrier created by the seller's choice of shipping method. Yet, after I followed its advice and contacted customer support again, I received a response that simply reiterates that import taxes are the buyer's responsibility, without addressing the actual issue.
So what is Catawiki's position? Does it stand by its public statement that sellers are responsible for choosing a shipping service capable of completing standard delivery to private recipients, or does it consider the buyer solely responsible even when the carrier's clearance requirements result in fees several times the value of the item?
If Catawiki genuinely stands by its public response, I would expect its Support Management and Disputes teams to assess my case according to those principles. If it does not, then its public response is misleading and creates expectations that its customer support team is unwilling to honour.
I contacted customer support again in good faith, following Catawiki's own recommendation. Instead of receiving the promised reassessment of the carrier restrictions and the seller's responsibility, I received another generic explanation about import taxes that fails to address the substance of my complaint.
I am not asking Catawiki to exempt me from legitimate import duties. I am asking it to apply the distinction it made in its own public statement and to explain why that position is not reflected in its customer support response.
I hope Catawiki will finally provide a clear, consistent, and case-specific answer.

Catawiki - No Payment, No Response to My Emails
I sold lot 106838553 through Catawiki. The buyer paid, and delivery went smoothly. However, I still have not received my payment.
I provided the required DAC7 information and informed customer support. My profile shows that my details are up to date. I still have not been given a specific payment date.
It is particularly disappointing to see the Catawiki Team responding to other users’ public reviews while my enquiry, raised in my last three emails, remains unanswered.
I expect clear communication and payment of the amount owed to me. This experience has seriously undermined my trust in the platform.
