Hansø pergola review

Hansø makes a solid louvered pergola, and owners who have theirs up are mostly happy with it. The risk is the wait: nearly all the recent bad reviews are about delivery running months late, and cancelling after a week costs 15%. Buy one if you can order well ahead. If you want it this season, or want to be able to return it after installing, look at PergoLux instead.

Before you pay, there’s one date to get in writing and one deadline that runs out a week after you order.

How much does a Hansø pergola cost?

Hansø sells three louvered models, all aluminum: the manual Pro+ (listed as the Aluminum Pergola Kit), and the motorized Horizon and Apex. Sizes run from 10×10 up to 13×26 feet, and here’s what each costs at the two most common patio sizes. Every size is on our Hansø page.

Hansø Aluminum Pergola Kit10×10 ftManual louvers$6,120

Hansø Apex Pergola10×10 ftMotorized louvers$11,950
Hansø Aluminum Pergola Kit10×13 ftManual louvers$7,587
Hansø Horizon Smart Pergola10×13 ftMotorized louvers$9,363
Hansø Apex Pergola10×13 ftMotorized louvers$14,950

Brand list prices, before tax, delivery and installation. Brands often run promotions, so check the live price before you order.

That puts Hansø near the top of what kit brands charge. A comparable PergoLux costs about $2,000 less at 10×13, and our top pick in the best louvered pergolas, the Mirador 111DA, is under half the price of the Pro+ at 10×10. What the extra buys is size and strength: the Apex goes up to 13×26 feet, and Hansø rates the motorized models for hurricane-force winds and heavy snow.

The price is for the kit only. It arrives by freight at the curb, and you still need a concrete base if you don’t have one, an electrician for the motorized models, and either two people’s time or Hansø’s installation service. Hansø quotes that service by size and site rather than publishing a price.

What owners like

Hansø averages 4.4 stars from about 1,150 reviews on Trustpilot, and 77% of them give it five stars. The praise is consistent: a frame that feels solid, parts that fit together properly, and sales staff who are patient and know the product without pushing.

Owners who write about a full winter with theirs say the closed louvers kept rain and snow off, which is the main thing you’re paying for.

What owners complain about

Nearly all of it is the wait. Of the 40 most recent one- and two-star reviews on Trustpilot, 36 are about delivery running months late, often with little news along the way. A handful mention missing parts, and only a few describe a fault with the pergola itself, such as a leak or a motor that failed.

Some of that wait is built in. Hansø makes every pergola to order, and its help center gives 10 to 14 weeks of production for the Pro+, counted from when your payment or financing is approved. Shipping comes after that, and Hansø says spring and early summer are its busiest months.

Pro+, Horizon or Apex?

  • The manual model, and the cheapest way into a Hansø. You turn the louvers by hand, in sizes up to 13×19.

  • Adds a motor and a much stronger rating, for about $1,800 more than the Pro+ at 10×13.

  • Hansø Apex pergola in dark gray on a timber deck beside a house, dining table and planters underneath

    Freestanding or wall-mounted

The strongest model and the only one that goes up to 13×26 feet.

For most patios the Pro+ is enough. Hansø rates it for 72 to 120 mph winds and 25 pounds of snow per square foot. The Horizon jumps to 165 mph and 60 pounds, and the Apex to 167 mph and 65 pounds.

So pay for the Horizon if you want the motor, or if you live where heavy snow or hurricanes are a real risk. The Apex only makes sense if you need a very large roof or want the strongest frame Hansø makes.

Warranty and returns

Hansø covers the frame for 10 years and the louver mechanism for five, against two years at PergoLux. The motor, lights and other electrics get one year. You have to register within 30 days of delivery, the cover ends if you sell the house, and labor isn’t included, so you pay to fit any replacement part.

The warranty also excludes damage from heavy snow, violent winds and hurricanes, so check that your home insurance covers the pergola. If you attach it to your house, water that gets in where the pergola meets the wall isn’t covered either. Hansø publishes instructions for sealing the beam and gutter, so seal that joint carefully.

The 100-day money-back promise is narrower than it sounds. It covers a kit that’s unused and in like-new condition, and Hansø takes 15% plus the shipping out of the refund. If you want to live with a pergola once it’s up and still be able to send it back, PergoLux offers that.

Can you install it yourself?

Yes, with a helper. Hansø says a DIY install takes two people one to three days with basic power tools, plus extra time for anchoring and wiring. Its white-glove service takes one to two days and is offered nationwide.

Neither option includes the concrete base or the electrical hookup. The motorized models need a licensed electrician, and if your patio isn’t ready Hansø quotes footings separately. Our pergola installation guide covers what that work involves.

Who should buy a Hansø pergola?

Buy one if you want a large, strongly rated louvered roof and can order months ahead, say in winter for the following summer. It suits a big patio, a snowy or stormy climate, or anyone who wants five years of cover on the louvers.

Look elsewhere if you need it this season, if you want to be able to return it after it’s up, or if price matters most. PergoLux is about $2,000 cheaper at 10×13 and can go back after installation, and the Mirador 111DA does the same job for under half the price at 10×10.

Questions

Are Hansø pergolas any good?

Owners mostly think so. Hansø averages 4.4 stars from about 1,150 Trustpilot reviews, with praise for solid frames and helpful staff. The common complaint is delivery running months late, not the pergola itself.

Is Hansø Home a legit company?

Yes. Hansø Home is accredited by the Better Business Bureau with an A- rating, and its BBB listing is in Memphis, Tennessee. It has had 24 BBB complaints in three years, about half of them about delivery.

How long does a Hansø pergola take to arrive?

Plan on three to four months at least. Hansø quotes 10 to 14 weeks of production for the Pro+, counted from when your payment is approved, and shipping comes after that. Many owners report waiting longer, so get a ship date in writing.

Where are Hansø pergolas made?

Hansø describes itself as an American company that works with outside manufacturing partners and ships from US warehouses. It doesn’t say which country its pergolas are made in.

Can you buy a Hansø pergola at Costco?

No. Hansø sells from its own website. The louvered pergola Costco carries is Mirador’s, which costs much less and is our top pick in the best louvered pergolas.

What sizes do Hansø pergolas come in?

The Pro+ and Horizon come in sizes from 10×10 to 13×19 feet, and the Apex goes up to 13×26. Each is sold freestanding or wall-mounted, and Hansø quotes custom sizes on request. The Pro+ stands about 8.2 feet tall.
