Completely ignored my instruction
I took my Tissot Touch watch into the Alton branch on 28/05/24. I asked for it to be sent to Tissot for the battery to be changed as Tissot have changed it in the past. I offered to leave my padded case with the watch but was told to keep it as they would provide their own. The guy I spoke to informed me it would be a £25 deposit and the rest on collection which would normally be in around 6 weeks time. I was a little confused when I was asked to pay £75 but they had asked me what I wanted the watch insured for, which I stated £500, so I assumed it was an additional charge for that. My receipt had an estimated collection date of 26/06, so 4 weeks sounded about right to me saying the guy had mentioned around 6 weeks. So I left the store assuming all was in order.
To my complete surprise I received a phone call from the Alton branch on 31/05 informing me my watch was back with them as it had failed some pressure test. On calling them I was informed my watch had been sent to the repair company t h baker normally uses and not Tissot, which was definitely not my instruction or understanding. However they now wanted to send the watch to Tissot at an additional cost which they said could be up to £250 as their own repairer couldn’t get it working. Feeling I couldn’t trust them I went into the branch first thing the next morning to collect my watch. On asking for it the lady picked up a large box full of watches from behind the counter and started to rifle through them. To my utter shock my watch was in this box full of other watches with no other protection other than the thin plastic bag it was in. I explained my shock to the store assistant who stated she had no idea what had happened and furthermore she couldn’t give me a refund cause their repair company had actually done work on my watch and she would have to ask her manager on Monday.
I took the watch straight to Goldsmiths in Portsmouth and asked them to send it to Tissot. They charged me an initial £25 deposit, explained the watch would be fully insured with them and Tissots charge for a battery and a case re-seal would be £65 in total, assuming that was all it needed.
Therefore the Tissot battery change is actually £10 cheaper than t h bakers own repair company and as they are the manufacturer of my watch it would be in safe hands. Therefore I can’t understand for the life of me why t h baker ignored my original instruction and sent it to their own repairer in the first place.
As sending it to t h bakers own repairer wasn’t my instruction I don’t care what work they have supposedly done to my watch, it wasn’t authorised work by me. Therefore I should have the £75 refunded as now I am having to effectively pay double money cause of t h bakers mess up or whatever else you want to call it. Assuming of course t h bakers own repair company hasn’t caused more damage to my watch by working on it without my authorisation.
I am going to take this matter further in order to recoup my losses.
