First time renting a car so was slightly apprehensive. Took out full insurance with RentX and found the service to surpass expectations. Pick-up and drop off was quick and easy, with the company easily contactable and happy to accommodate slight changes in timings. The car was clean and any existing damage was documented clearly and explained beforehand. Would absolutely rent from RentX again.

Nice reception, but wondered a bit when we were asked to film a more or less brand new car. Turned out that the person was actually trying to help us. At return they were hostile and tried to claim a minor scratch on us that we hapily had on camera when arrived.

The staff, especially the woman who handled our check-in and check-out—Helena if I'm not mistaken—was helpful, clear and friendly. They mentioned options, but didn't push selling anything extra, even though I didn't purchase their full insurance. I rented two cars: a brand-new Mercedes 7-seater and a second Citroen C3, which was scratched and somewhat worn, but all the damage was listed in the contract, with no attempts to hide or manipulate it. Everything was quick and straightforward, with no hidden agendas. The staff picked us up at the airport and drove us to the office, which is about 10 minutes away, and at the end of our trip, they also took us back to the airport for free. Perfect service, thanks.

Great service from the team. There was no pressure to purchase extra insurance (which often happens in other places unfortunately). They provide a convenient shuttle van that collects you from the airport and takes you to the nearby car collection point. The staff were excellent—friendly, English-speaking, and clear in explaining the process. The car itself was in very good condition. I’d definitely recommend them if you’re visiting Madeira.

10/10 service from start to finish. As soon as we arrived at the airport, we were greeted by the loveliest shuttle bus driver who was so welcoming and accommodating, which set a great first impression.

At the office, everything was handled quickly and efficiently. The car itself was excellent, and we really appreciated how thorough they were with documenting its condition. We were given a detailed list of all existing marks and scratches, making it easy to check the vehicle on collection and giving us complete peace of mind.

When returning the car, the process was just as smooth. We were actually running slightly late for our flight, and the gentleman who assisted us kindly took us straight to the airport so we didn’t have to wait for the shuttle which was such a thoughtful touch.

We’ll definitely be returning to Madeira soon and will 100% be using RentX again!

I booked airport pick-up and return in Madeira with full insurance, choosing an automatic (Audi A1 or similar). I received an automatic Citroën C3.
One day before, the company sent a WhatsApp message offering online check-in. I submitted my driver’s license, passport, and flight details. The same day, I received all instructions and a contact number on mail.
On arrival, I called them( you can do it via WhatsApp) , and they said a van would come in a few minutes — we waited about 20 minutes. They transferred us to Machico (nearby town).
Thanks to online check-in, the process was quick. I paid in cash, and the car was ready outside.
Return was also fast — they checked the full tank, and we were transferred back to the airport.

It was a super smooth experience. We rented a car in Madeira, Portugal. From start to finish, they were very professional and understanding. There was something wrong with the wheel mechanism with the initial car they gave us, once I called them, they changed the car IN ONE HOUR. I called them, a mechanic came over, exchanged the cars, that's it, they even gave us a much better one. All in all, great experience, will definitely be using their services in the future.

Fantastic company to rent cars in Madeira. The process online is easy and fast.
We rented to pick up and drop off our car from Rentx Funchal. Rodney was very kind and provided excellent service, he even was able to cater for a specific need we had.
Car was also wonderful, new, great horse power for the stiff mountains and great size for the parkings.

I’m modifying my previous attribution of 2* in this review (details below) to 5*.

The management has responded professionally and in a timely manner to my complaint. They apologized for the situation, refunded the 30€ and explained that Mr Vitor would be reprimanded.

I decided to change the star rating because it seems unfair that the whole company would have to bear the consequences of one man’s mistakes. RentX proved they care about their clients as I received kind messages and the refund despite having left a negative review.

Leaving a two star review due to bad service received upon checkout. The reservation process and communication via WhastApp were convenient. The car Citroen 3 was a standard and fine. At reservation and check in we communicated our flight number and departure time. The lady that received us asked that we arrive 2 hours before our flight which was departing at 9:40 am. We agreed therefore on arrival at about 7:30 which I confirmed by WhatsApp. Upon arrival, Mr Victor busy with a customer checking in, welcomed us in a highly unexpected and unpleasant manner “Heloooo, can I help you?!” I replied “yes, we’re here to drop off the car”. “You’re too early, you’re supposed to be here at 8:30”. Needless to say, the entire rental experience was suddenly shadowed by his surprisingly unpleasant behavior and welcome. A few explanations later, still with the same attitude he said he’d take us to the airport (5 min drive) but it’ll be 30€ because it is night hours (it was 7:43 at the time) and that it is written in the contract. When I explained no one informed us of this expensive charge and that we were asked to be there at that time AND that I sent a confirmation message the night before, still no one informed us of the “night hours”, he explained, I’m just doing my job. Conclusion it’s cheaper to take an Uber to the airport from their so called airport location or simply rent from another agency that will be more transparent and most importantly more pleasant to deal with.
Lastly, Mr Victor drove fast in the rain on curvy roads and insisted on playing music loudly in the car despite us asking him to turn off the music, luckily he did slow down though after we asked him. Regarding music, he said that this is the best radio station (and we should enjoy it).

be carfull - they give you the car in a dark place and you can't find all the scratches - and when you return the car they charge you double on every tiny scratch

I recently rented a car from RentX and had an excellent experience from start to finish. The pickup and drop-off processes were incredibly smooth and efficient. I barely had to wait, and within 10 minutes, I was already on my way. Their fleet consists of well-maintained and new vehicles, which made for a comfortable and worry-free drive.

The staff at RentX were professional and non-intrusive, which I greatly appreciated. Communication through WhatsApp was also seamless and prompt, adding to the overall convenience of the service. Returning the car was just as easy as picking it up. The inspection process took only a few minutes, and everything was handled efficiently.

I had purchased additional insurance from an external company, but at no point did I feel that RentX was looking for damages to bill me for, which can sometimes be a concern based on previous reviews. This makes me question who was really at fault in those other scenarios. Based on my experience, I can confidently say that RentX is an honest company that delivers exactly what you expect from a car rental service.

I would gladly rent a car from RentX again in the future.

They charged me 219 euro for a small (few cms) scratch UNDER the front fender/bumper of the car on return. I did not check under when picking up the car, but I am sure I did not make the scratch. They also charged me 26 euro for gas, as the needle was just below full. I had filled up not far from the rental place but obviously not to exactly the same level. This company is trying to make extra money from the fine print as opposed to providing a reasonable customer experience. I would avoid renting here.
