A bank systematically disregarding the GDPR
I was considering this bank. I installed the app and started the registration process. I was unpleasantly surprised by both the number of documents I had to read, accept, and sign, as well as their length. This is several times more than all the other banks I am a client of combined. After another such document, I decided this bank wasn't for me and I didn't want to continue registration. But the interface didn't offer the option to decline the next set of conditions or abort the registration process. So, I simply closed the app, deciding I had no connection with this bank. After a while, I started receiving messages from the bank suggesting I might have some kind of account and plan there. I wrote an email explaining the situation, asking them to close the account, if I had one, and declaring my desire to invoke Article 17 of the GDPR (Right to Erasure) and therefore demanding that they delete any of my data and no longer use it for mailings, etc. Each time, I received another email simply telling me to close my account in the app, ignoring the information that I hadn't completed the registration process and therefore couldn't use the specified functionality. I have no intention of accepting yet more bank terms and conditions that I don't agree with just to complete registration. Ultimately, the bank's support team took a downright abusive approach. Instead of another email response, I received a notification that I could view the bank's message in the app. In other words, the bank is consistently pressuring me to accept all their terms and complete registration, which I have repeatedly stated I don't intend to do. Furthermore, their emails don't include a link to unsubscribe from future emails. To stop receiving spam from the bank, drumroll, you must use the app, and to do that, yes, you absolutely must accept all their terms and complete registration.
An update. Just noticed a reply from the bank below. They suggested that I complete and send a PDF form to support(at)n26.com. But I already did that on June 3, 2026 at 9:29 CEST. And another support employee, whose name was Belinda, wrote, she could not process my request because I did not specify the IBAN. Which I do not know due to incomplete registration.
