Etsy Destroyed My 3-Year Business, Withheld 210,000 TRY, and Left Me Financially Devastated

I spent nearly three years building my Etsy business from the ground up. I invested my time, savings, creativity, and energy into creating original designs, providing quality products, and keeping my customers happy. I was proud of the business I had built and the positive feedback I received.

Then Etsy permanently suspended my shop over intellectual property complaints, leaving me financially devastated.

I acknowledge that I made mistakes. While expanding my product collection, I purchased digital PNG design bundles from other sellers on Etsy, believing they were legitimate for commercial use. I did not knowingly copy anyone's artwork. I have purchase records proving exactly where those designs came from.

I was not given a meaningful opportunity to explain or correct the situation before my shop was permanently closed. Even after I submitted documentation, explained the circumstances, and obtained an officially confirmed withdrawal from one of the complainants, Etsy refused to reinstate my account.

What makes this especially frustrating is the apparent double standard. Etsy is full of active shops selling products featuring copyrighted characters, recognizable brands, and copied artwork. Even my own original designs have been copied and sold by other Etsy sellers. I have become exhausted from repeatedly discovering and reporting these copies.

Why are so many apparently infringing products still available while a seller who spent three years building a legitimate business loses everything?

But the worst part is the money.

Etsy is withholding approximately **210,000 Turkish lira of my sales revenue for 180 days**. This is NOT my profit. I operated a print-on-demand business, and I had already paid substantial production costs using my credit cards. Etsy is holding the revenue while I am left responsible for those bills.

My savings are gone. I am now in a worse financial position than when I first started my business.

I understand that Etsy must protect intellectual property rights. I am not asking for special treatment or permission to violate policies. I am asking for fairness, transparency, proportionality, and consistent enforcement.

After nearly three years of hard work, I feel that Etsy has completely abandoned me as a seller. I trusted this platform with my business and my livelihood, and the consequences have been devastating.

**I want other independent sellers to understand the financial risks of building their entire business on a platform that can permanently suspend their shop and hold their sales revenue for six months.**

Etsy was my go to place for crochet…

Etsy was my go to place for crochet patterns. But not anymore it's been flooded with AI patterns that are nonsense. Then nothing is done when you complain.
Because of the flood of AI generated patterns on etsy independent designers are hard to find now, lost to scammers flooding the searches.
So my purchases from etsy have become less and less.

Backhanded buisiness

Terrible support options and backhanded automated systems. my account was inactive for almost 2 years but showed no holds, reserves or any alerts on my payment account. when i reopened my shop i made sure eveything was in order before making my first sale back and only after the first sale was my account put into a 45 day reserve on 30% scheduled for review in 3 months, but my depositing account has been held with no reason provided or estimated release date. their policy shows upwards to 150 days!! i have contacted support 5 times, twice being told their manager would reach out to me and never did. i was also told that the automatic system can make errors that can be overridden by the human staff yet no action has been made. i had gone through all the required verifcation steps and schedules for when you first open an etsy shop and start selling 3 years ago. my account has a near perfect review score with almost 100 sales yet their support team offers no resolve to my payment account. im incredibly disapointed with the service and will be transferring my shop to another platform right away. Terrible Service.

Disappointing custom tailoring experience & unprofessional service.

Disappointing custom tailoring experience & unprofessional service - CryptOrchidCreations by Chrystal Arcana Scottland

I ordered a custom-made outfit (corset and wrap) for my wedding celebration, paying £275 / €340 in total. Unfortunately, the quality, fitting, and customer support were extremely disappointing.
Severe Fitting & Sizing Errors: The corset arrived gaping widely at the top around the bust, making it completely unwearable as supplied. Furthermore, the corset lacing was already fully closed to the tightest setting upon delivery—meaning there was zero room for flexibility or adjustments. The wrap was made from stiff material with an awkward cut that pulled unnaturally across the shoulders.
Extra Costs: With only two days before my event, returning the items to Scotland was impossible. I had to pay a local seamstress out of my own pocket to alter both garments so I could wear them.
Unacceptable Customer Service: When I requested a partial refund (£100 / €100) to cover the local alteration costs, the maker took no accountability. Instead of offering a solution, she demanded photos of my bare chest to "prove" the gaping error on the corset, blamed measurements, and eventually deleted/blocked me on social media.
Charging full price for custom garments that require emergency local fixes—and then refusing any responsibility—is completely unprofessional. I strongly advise looking elsewhere for reliable tailoring.

Out of good faith—because a mutual acquaintance was at her location in person and we even had a video call prior—I paid via PayPal 'Friends & Family', which left me with no buyer protection.

Update: The seller claims this profile only covers tarot readings. However, she actively promotes and sells custom tailoring under the exact same business name ("Crystal Arcana") across social media, which is why this review is placed here.

As a small business selling handmade…

As a small business selling handmade clothes on Etsy for 9 years they are a massive rip off for sellers. There are loads of hidden fees, I just sold 2 items for £800 and got £603 from Etsy, I then had to spend £200 posting them! Don’t bother if your a genuine small business… absolute ripoff and now flooded with cheap reproduction goods not all handmade artisan as advertised!

No humans available, money lost so far

Ordered an item on 5 Sept 2026 (order #4165037985, EUR 51.50). It never arrived. I messaged the seller three times with no answer, and the shop has since closed and the listing was removed. The app offered no “Open a case” option, I sent a help request to Etsy, and after more than a week, I have received no reply and no refund, no info whatsoever from Etsy.
For a platform that advertises Purchase Protection, having no working route to a human is unacceptable. I am now disputing the charge with my bank.

Paid 12 euro's to open a shop

Paid 12 euro's to open a shop, as etsy promotes this is for security and service reasons. Their 'service' gave me 2 views of my shop in an entire month. Complete waste of money, Etsy just took it and did nothing. Im not sure why this platform is so popular, just go to numerous other websites where you can advert your stuff for free, and where paying actually legimatelly give you advertisement. This was a total scam.

I want to share my experience with Joyva Studio on Etsy — has anyone else experienced something similar?

I want to share my experience with Joyva Studio because I believe other Etsy sellers, especially new sellers in the Canva invitation website niche, should be aware of what happened to me.

I noticed that Joyva Studio had multiple Etsy shops and many bestselling listings. When I started creating my own Canva invitation websites, I worked on popular themes and occasions that many sellers offer on Etsy.

However, I began receiving messages from this seller asking me to remove listings that I believed were independently created and different from her specific designs. When I was new, I initially changed some listings because I thought perhaps that was how things worked on Etsy.

What concerned me even more was that, in my experience, I would be asked to remove one listing, but later an intellectual property report would concern a different listing. This left me confused about what exactly was being challenged and why. I felt that even when I addressed one concern, another listing could become the subject of a dispute.

Eventually, I questioned why I should have to keep changing or removing my work when I was creating my own designs around popular themes, occasions, colors, and general website formats that many other sellers also use.

I explained my position and provided comparisons to demonstrate the differences between our websites. Despite this, I experienced further disputes involving intellectual property reports. After disagreements with Joyva Studio, I also received reports from another party. I cannot confirm whether these events were connected, but the repeated pattern concerned me.

I disputed reports that I believed were incorrect and submitted formal counter notices through Etsy. Eventually, my shop was permanently suspended, and my appeal was denied. Losing the business I worked so hard to build has been devastating.

I cannot claim to know Joyva Studio's intentions, and I respect every seller's right to protect their original work. However, my experience left me feeling singled out and made me question whether intellectual property complaints can sometimes put smaller competitors at a disadvantage.

Popular themes, occasions, colors, and general website layouts are not necessarily exclusive to one seller. There should be a fair distinction between copying someone's original artwork or protected creative expression and independently creating a product in the same popular niche.

I'm sharing my experience because I want other sellers to document their designs, save screenshots of communications, keep records of listing changes and reports, and understand their options when facing similar disputes. I also believe Etsy needs stronger safeguards against potentially abusive or mistaken reports and a fair review process for sellers who challenge allegations.

Has anyone else experienced repeated intellectual property complaints while selling Canva invitation websites or other digital products? Have you ever been asked to remove one listing and then received a report concerning a different listing? I'd genuinely like to hear how others handled these situations, especially if they managed to resolve a dispute or successfully appeal an Etsy suspension.

Bad and worst experience…

Bad and worst experience…

Etsy suspended my seller account without providing any clear reason or proper explanation. This has been an extremely disappointing experience.

If you are planning to start an online business, I would strongly recommend thinking twice before choosing Etsy as your selling platform. Instead, consider building your own website and developing your business independently.

I do not recommend Etsy to sellers based on my experience. Never again!

The product fell apart within a week, with no unusual wear...it's RIDICULOUS! Then the seller got a tude because I told them...it's nonsense. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this process thru Etsy.

I'm not surprised that Etsy only has 1 star on TrustPilot! I wrote a review that did NOT violate any rules. I even checked it thru Grok (AI). Etsy came back and said they removed my review! It was an honest review about a very rude seller with no customer service. I was not ugly, and I was warning other buyers, just like bad reviews often do! Unbelievable. I was not provided with the promised item I purchased, then Etsy accused me of extortion!!! Wow! They said I was trying to get a free product by writing a bad review. OMG. I wouldn't want to ever deal with that seller again, and I wanted NOTHING from him but an apology. He was such a jerk, and then Etsy punishes the buyer. How stupid is that?! Etsy sucks.

I ordered a mini toolbag keychain

I ordered a mini toolbag keychain. Going by the photo I ordered it. Only to be told it was going to be delivered on multiple dates that didn't show up only to show up and NOT be what I ordered. I had ordered with Etsy before with no problem but Etsy is not taking responsibility these sellers doing false advertisements is ridiculous. I will NEVER order anything else from the seller or Etsy ever again! Keep the money you fraudulently tricked me out of and hopefully you will lose all of your customers and go out of business!

Stay away from Etsy

Etsy is an I’ll run company that has antiquated processes that serve the company and not the people who use the platform. In addition the structure is built for them to make money not the sellers. They have so many rules they can’t even understand them and yet make decisions that don’t align with with the rules. Watch out. It is not a safe or good company. Just because lots of people use it, that has nothing to do with Etsy the platform. The sellers are awesome creative people. Etsy is a structural mess.

Extremely disappointed with Etsy’s…

Extremely disappointed with Etsy’s unforgiving policies. There is zero room for minor mistakes, and sellers aren't even given a fair chance to rectify simple errors before facing harsh penalties or suspensions. It feels like the platform is structured primarily to profit off listing and shop fees rather than supporting sellers. I definitely cannot recommend opening a shop here!
