I am submitting a review and safety… Smart Cruise Control Detection Delay & Braking Behavior

I am submitting a review and safety concern regarding the Smart Cruise Control (SCC) system on my 2025 Hyundai Elantra Luxury.

Issue Description:
When the vehicle directly ahead of me changes lanes, the Smart Cruise Control system frequently fails to promptly detect or measure the gap to the next car directly in front of me. This detection lag forces me to intervene with severe manual braking to avoid a rear-end collision. Additionally, when the system does apply automatic braking, the pedal response feels unnaturally stiff and difficult to modulate manually.

Impact:
This behavior creates a dangerous driving situation during highway traffic transitions.

Extremely appalled by Hyundai

Disclaimer- I am not a person to leave poor reviews, I believe in offering positive reviews when a positive review is deserving. With that being said, I have reached my threshold of accepting the incessant dismissal, disorganization and alarming vagueness and obscurity.

I bought my 2021 Hyundai Tucson brand new off the lot believing that the warranty was a benefit (first mistake). I was offered free car washes for life during the time of my purchase. I considered this to be a wonderful service and began bringing my car in every 2 weeks for a wash. Then after a few of these visits, I was confronted by a service provider that car washes are reserved for customers who pay for vehicle maintenance, I was felt embarrassed and attempted to explain, to which I was met with judgement and dismissal.

In 2025, after several years of regular maintenance, my engine redlined and suddenly my engine was pouring smoke out the sides. I immediately pulled of the the side of the road and called AMA. The tow truck driver informed me that they have to haul vehicles with engines like these on a regular basis and informed me of the ongoing class action.

Once my vehicle was towed to my local Hyundai Dealership, I informed them what happened. The service manager stated he would be communicating directly with Hyundai Canada to get to the bottom of the issue and let me know of their decision. After a couple weeks of asking for any and all service receipts, they asked me about one period of time where my vehicle showed a lapse in oil change. I explained to them that a licensed mechanic who was a friend did my oil change as a favour during Christmas so I could buy my children Christmas gifts.

The service manager explained to me in very technical terminal that my piston blew out the side of the engine. As I am not a professional mechanic and do not specialize in the details of how an engine functions, ai asked him several questions so that I could better understand the situation. He was less than amused but took the time to explain the issue in layman’s terms.

The service manager informed me that "Sorry this is denied for 10D223 assistance, these conrod bearings do not show any abnormal wear, they are burnt and not worn which is not part of 10D223". I asked for clarification if it was one or all 4 of the connector rod bearings. I received no further response.

When I called the local Hyundai dealership to request the cost to replace my engine, I was quoted between $15,000 and $18,000 with no option to finance the labour or materials. To say I was devastated was an understatement.

I was finally able to find a financial institution that offered me a loan for a used engine and labour.

Then shortly after I received a phone call from the sales department asking if I would like to trade in my 2021 Hyundai Tucson as “they are very popular vehicles and we have an interested buyer…”. I politely asked that my name be removed from their call back list as I was disgusted with Hyundai’s sheer lack compassion. To be clear, Hyundai has called me several times to prompt me to trade in my vehicle and after learning the hard way how much negative equity a brand new vehicle carries, I would always decline and ask that my name be removed from their call back list, to no avail I was frustrated that I routinely received calls every time a new salesman came on the team, which was frequently.

Recently my husband was injured at work and I informed Hyundai Finance that I would be late on my payment, and asked if I could defer my upcoming payment 15 days away, told me to call back a week before my next payment to request to defer it. I called back one week before to request to defer my payment and he agent (different agent) told me I cannot differ any payments if I have an outstanding payment. It took many questions for me to get any further information from this agent for her to tell me I could request to differ my outstanding payment, at which point she said that I could but that they would charge me $20 for the administration fee and $20 for the NSF fee… I was shocked that I was just informed that I would be forced to make micropayments (daily interest, onto of my regular principal and agreed regular interest, plus $20 for an administration fee, plus a $20 NSF fee of which my bank already charged me $20 for a stop payment). Asking for confirmation of these charges, I was in disbelief. I told her that I would call back on my next payday to arrange for this. Two days later, on my routine payday, I called Hyundai for the third time only to have this agent (a different one) tell me that I missed the deadline to request to differ that payment, when I asked to speak with their supervisor, the response was, “it’s not us, it’s the system”… I had enough of the constant lack of clear communication. Shame on Hyundai, of all departments.

Will not return my money.

About a year ago, I brought my Hyundai to the Grimsby Hyundai dealership because my lane assist system wasn’t working and my rear hatch wouldn’t open using the interior button. My trusted mechanic believed the issue was electrical, so I took it to the dealership for a proper diagnosis.

The dealership diagnosed the problem as a faulty module and ordered the part. When it arrived, I returned to have it installed. I paid for the part and Immediately after installation, it was obvious the repair had not fixed the problem. I removed the part, the shop manager acknowledged that wasn’t the issue, and then told me they were too busy to continue diagnosing the vehicle. I was asked to return at a later date. We parked d separately over 100$ to have it diagnose.

Later, I took my vehicle back to my personal mechanic. He found a loose wire, repaired it, and every issue was resolved. The lane assist and rear hatch have worked perfectly ever since. The dealership’s diagnosis was simply incorrect.

After discovering this, I requested that the dealership refund the money they had been holding as a credit. They refused, stating they had spent time diagnosing the vehicle (which we paid for) and would only allow me to use the credit toward future service. I have no intention of returning to a dealership that misdiagnosed my vehicle and then refused to refund my money. Instead, they have held my funds for over a year unless I agree to bring my vehicle back.

This experience left me extremely disappointed with both the service department and the management team. Mistakes can happen, but standing behind an incorrect diagnosis by refusing a refund is poor customer service. I cannot recommend this dealership based on my experience.i contact Hyundai Canada for assistance but they have not bothered to return my 3 emails. No response at all? I bought my vehicle new looks like Hyundai is not all it’s cracked up to be. Stay away

Hyundais warranty is NOT what they claim.

Purchased a brand new Tucson in 2024. One reason was Hyundai's 5 year warranty. I discovered while pruchasing it that electronics are only 3 years but made the purchase anyway.

2 years later the air conditioning stopped working.
When I dropped the car off I was shown a "Warranty Bulletin" showing that the AC coolant levels was only warranteed for 12 months!

So, they wanted to run a diaagnostic on the AC system, the first step was to charge the coolant.
Regardless of the outcome I was going to be charged $465+HST for diagnostic and coolant service.....on a 2 year old vehicle.

While i stood there complaining, the Hyiundai Service Tech showed me a STACK of these "Warranty Bulletins" listing items that they did not include in their 5 year/100k warranty.

I took my car and left without getting nay work done. I suspect that is their goal, to avoid as much "free" warranty work as possible.

Turning Vehicle Ownership into a Full-Time Research Project

*** Additional Feedback (July 3) – Thank You Hyundai for Turning Vehicle Ownership into a Full-Time Research Project***

First, I'd like to congratulate Hyundai on turning what should be a simple ownership experience into a treasure hunt.
1. Tire Rotation: A Recommended Mystery
The owner's manual clearly recommends tire rotations. Great. However, Hyundai seems to have forgotten one minor detail: when owners are actually supposed to do them.
The manual tells me to rotate the tires, yet the maintenance schedule completely omits any tire rotation interval. One page says "do it," while the maintenance table says absolutely nothing about it. See attached screenshots.
In every vehicle I've owned previously, tire rotation intervals were clearly specified. Apparently, Hyundai has taken a more adventurous approach: customers are encouraged to guess, search forums, call dealerships, or perhaps consult a crystal ball.
I'm genuinely surprised a major manufacturer would launch a vehicle with such basic maintenance information missing. So, Hyundai, the question remains: Rotate the tires—but at what mileage? Where is the official recommendation?

2. Recall Parts: The Waiting Game Championship
Let's review the timeline of this outstanding customer experience:
May 22: Vehicle serviced and concerns related to poor (now worst!) Service experience reported.
June 2: Service Manager Zee finally connects with me (10 days later).
June 26: After multiple follow-ups and 25 more days of waiting, I finally receive an ETA for the recall replacement part.
ETA for Part: August 21!!! Hurreyyyy we are getting replacement part after 3 months! That to for a recall repair 🙂
Amazing.
So after more than a month of chasing updates, I'm informed that I need to wait nearly another two months for a recall-related part. By the time the part arrives, this issue will have been dragging on for roughly three months.
Meanwhile, my vehicle is due for Service B, meaning I now have to make multiple trips because Hyundai cannot provide recall parts in a reasonable timeframe.
Should I consider this normal? Am I supposed to be impressed by a process that turns a recall repair into a quarter-year project? If Hyundai representatives put themselves in a customer's shoes for a moment, would they honestly think this experience is acceptable?
3. Reaching the Service Manager: Another Recall-Worthy Experience
Attempting to contact the service manager deserves its own section.
Phone calls typically lead to voicemail. Emails seem to enter a holding pattern where responses arrive 7–10 days later, if at all. In most cases, I have to follow up on my follow-ups just to receive basic updates.
At this point, obtaining information feels significantly more difficult than maintaining the vehicle itself.
Final Thoughts
The vehicle ownership (Worth $70K) experience shouldn't consist of:
Hunting for missing maintenance information.
Waiting months for recall parts.
Repeatedly chasing dealership staff for updates.
Making multiple service visits to address a single issue.
So my question to Hyundai is simple:
What exactly is the customer experience strategy here for a $70K vehicle? Because from where I sit, it feels less like customer care and more like a masterclass in testing a customer's patience.

I own a 2024 Hyundai Sante Fe…

I own a 2024 Hyundai Sante Fe Calligraphy with the extended warranty….I recently hit a pothole damaging a rim….My dealer ordered me a rim at a cost of $1125.00…..PROBLEM no rim for this vehicle exists in Canada and I was advised in mid May that it would be 4-6 weeks ( and now find out June 30. ) is the arrival date

I contacted Hyundai Canada requesting a discount for the rim as due to their parts issues I gave no use of my vehicle for 6 weeks..today they advised I would not be offered any discount, even though their lack of inventory control has cost me the use of my vehicle for 6 weeks.
Pathetic customer service in my opinion

I have been without my vehicle for a month

I have been without my vehicle for a month since it stopped working. I had
to have it towed to my dealership, who then advised me it would be under
warranty at Hyundai. It was then towed to Murray Hyundai in Winnipeg. I've
only owned this car for a year and I heard nothing but great things about
Hyundai, I was even recommended this brand for it's outstanding and good
reputation. I was shocked to find out that I was barely 1000km over
warranty with the engine and that I will now be on the hook to pay for it.
I had to wait over two weeks for a diagnostics, which I was charged almost
$400 for; after my dealership already determined it was a manufacturing
problem. Hyundai also refused to provide a courtesy vehicle which caused us
even greater financial hardship and wants us to pay for the new engine as
well; which will almost be 7k. They said the replacement was determined by
Canada Hyundai. When we reached out to Canada Hyundai this was their response.

Thank you for contacting Hyundai Auto Canada.

After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that your warranty claim has been officially denied, and this decision is final. Please know that this outcome was reached only after a thorough evaluation of all available information.

At this stage, Hyundai Auto Canada Customer Relations team is unable to influence, alter, or escalate the decision any further. If you have additional questions, or if you require assistance with next steps, we kindly encourage you to reach out directly to your servicing Hyundai dealership. They will be able to guide you on the options available moving forward. As no further escalation is available, this case will now be closed.

Thank you for contacting Hyundai Auto Canada and allowing us an opportunity to review your concerns.

Do not buy a Hyundai. They will sell you a faulty engine just to make you pay more down the road.

False advertising an fraud

They claim to have parts in stock on their parts website. I place an order for the parts I need and they take my money. A few days later they tell me that they no longer stock those parts. Instead of issuing a refund they just voided the order. So now I have to wait 10-30 days for the payment to expire for me to receive my money back. How hard would it have been to give me a proper refund? This is also false advertising and fraud if you claim you have something and then take money for it when you know you don’t have it.

One Advise

One Advise - Dont buy their cars under any condition
I recently contacted Hyundai Canada about an issue with my Santa Fe and had a very disappointing experience with customer service. I was kept on hold for a long time while agents tried to figure out what my case was about, and it was clear they were not prepared to handle detailed questions or challenges. When I asked for written confirmation of their position, I was told I would not receive anything, then later found an email had been sent anyway. The worst part was that the customer service specialist ended the call while I was still speaking. This experience has left me with very little confidence in Hyundai Canada’s customer support, especially when dealing with complex warranty concerns.

I purchase a brand new vehicle from…

I purchase a brand new vehicle from Streetsville Hyundai in April 2025, car currently has under 15,000 KM and is its first winter. I open the hood to add washer fuel and was horrified to see state of the engine, photo provided. Every single part of the engine was covered in road dirt and winter salt. The battery which should be kept clean was saturated in winter salt, the metal and electrical components are covered. I sent this photo to Streetsville Hyundai and then took the car in. They looked at this and told me that everything was fine. I asked them how can this be fine when people are constantly at the car wash in the winter trying to wash the salt off the body of their cars. They then recommended that I can clean/wash under the hood. I have never heard of regularly needing to wash my engine nor have I ever had to incur that cost. Now I am stuck with a car loan for a new car that will no doubt erode faster under the hood, increase repair cost, likely right after the warranty runs out and shorten the life of the car. I guess Hyundai conveniently benefits all of this. If you are considering buying Hyundai please be aware.

Deceptive and Shady Company

Bought a 2017 Tucson brand new, meticulously maintained, then started consuming oil around 135k Km (had extended warranty to 146k). Dealership and HC said it was normal to use 1L of oil per 1000km!!! Well, at 150K my engine needed to be replaced thanks to scored cylinders...as tested by the dealership for $500 (how convenient, right after the warranty expired!!). HC said they won't cover anything, and won't respond to any more of my enquiries. Dealership also washed their hands of it. A simple Google search will reveal how many of their vehicles have failed engines, they are fully aware they are selling lemons. Hyundai Canada are criminal, avoid them like the plague and buy a reliable vehicle...I bought a Toyota.

Also avoid Precision Hyundai in Calgary, These people are completely unethical and irresponsible!!

My daughter really relies on her…

My daughter really relies on her vehicle for her job. It is going to g through so much oil , she can’t keep enough oil in it. As it’s no longer under warranty anymore, the dealership wants to charge her $1000 just to test it and then she would probably need a new engine which is bloody ridiculous since she still owes for that vehicle. These dealerships are terrible. they gouge people constantly. Some of the vehicles in Hyundai have been recalled, unfortunately, hers is not one of them.… They should be responsible for vehicles that are lemons

Attrell Hyundai in Brampton should literally just close its doors .

They "explain" documents to their clients, which is totally inaccurate to what exactly the documents entail!

And then they take no accountability for that. They downgrade people's positions that work there and take no ownership on an accurate information those people tell clients !

Hyundai is a whole should be disgusted in themselves to even blame that Hyundai dealerships are independently owned! And that's their excuse for not helping clients.
Save yourself the trouble and don't buy yourself a Hyundai vehicle!!! they are probably one of the most dishonest companies in the car industry

PT Barnum said there is a sucker born every minute In my view Hyundai shares that sentiment

About 2 weeks ago I received a call that my cell phone displayed as LIKELY SPAM. I answered and the woman on the other end said she was calling from Gyro Hyundai where we bought a used car some moths back. I asked about the SPAM message and if he was calling from a dealership wouldn't the name of the dealership be displayed. She said it was because the dealership wouldn't let them use dealership phones. I said I didn't believe her and I would not be answering questions. She said I could just listen and she seemed to know when we bought the car and what we paid. Furthermore she said that there was a shortage of the car we bought and the dealership was prepared to offer us more than we paid if we sold it back. I said get someone to call from a legit phone number and we will talk.
It didn't take long to search and discover that this is scam and certainly not reputable. Maybe they think if they can lure you to the dealership they can have their way with you. So I wrote a note to the Hyundai CEO.....no reply. The dealership didn't reply either. Is it possible that the Hyundai policy and climate now is to rape the customer?

Hyundai Doesn’t Care About Families.

Hyundai Doesn’t Care About Families.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My boyfriend was made executor of his late father’s estate, which included a Hyundai vehicle financed through the bank. Despite funds being available, the bank inexplicably stopped making payments, and Hyundai repossessed the vehicle.

That’s unfortunate enough — but what’s truly unacceptable is what came next. We were instructed to email Hyundai proof of the will to retrieve our personal belongings from the repossessed car. We sent everything and followed up multiple times, but never received a single response.

It’s now been almost a year, and our personal and sentimental belongings are gone — not because we failed to act, but because Hyundai failed to respond. No acknowledgment, no compassion, no accountability.

If this is how Hyundai treats grieving families and legal executors acting in good faith, it says everything about their values. We are demanding proper communication, accountability, and compensation for the loss of our personal property.

Hyundai — it’s time to do the right thing.
We will continue sharing this experience publicly until someone finally takes responsibility.

Very Disappointed

Very Disappointed – Unethical and Unhelpful Experience. Stay away from Kingcross Hyundai 1957 Eglinton Ave. East | Scarborough, ON | M1L 2M3. These people are completely unethical and irresponsible. I bought a car from them, and they installed a license plate cover with their dealership name without informing me. Because of that cover, I received a fine from the police for having an obstructed plate.
When I contacted Farid and the team at Kingcross Hyundai, they showed zero interest, offered no apology, and took no responsibility for their mistake. This shows the kind of dishonest and careless business they run.
It’s deeply disappointing to see such unethical and careless practices from a dealership representing a major brand. Dealers should act responsibly and ensure customers do not face legal trouble because of their actions.
They only care about making a sale, not their customers. Be warned — avoid this dealership at all costs unless you want to deal with fines and rude, unprofessional behaviour afterwards.

I bought a Hyundai from Hyundai Windsor and I encountered very bad treatment. The person in charge of financing was a young man with no experience and the manager did not know how to solve any problem. Trying to deal with hyundai canada specifically the manager that I was talking to. She should definitely be replaced or hyndais slogan should be changed from Wah to "Unfortunately" absolutely useless. This useless corporate way of thinking has went way to far. Do not buy a hyundai.
Every solution I put forth was stone walled and met with the same generic answer over and over. Every time I would offer a resolution and she would say well if you let me finish what I was saying. I say okay go ahead and she would repeat the same generic response once again starting with "unfortunately". It was like talking to a parrot. If this is hyundais vision then there not going to last long. If it's just the managers own ethics then she should be replaced to re positioned. Talking to her is like Talking to a wall, only Talking to a wall would be less annoying. I don't think hyundai will be around much longer.

Hyundai Canada

My mother purchased her new car in 2013. It is a Hyundai Elantra. The car was purchased in Sault Ste Marie, her engine started making a noise a few months ago. She always did the required maintenance at the dealer where she bought the car. She brought the car in for the noise and was told she would need a new engine. There are only 65 000 km on the car. My mom is 87 yrs old and not in a position to purchase a new car or replace the engine. On behalf of my mom, I contacted Hyundai Canada and was told that all warranties are expired and there is nothing they can do. We were advised to contact the dealer to see what are options are. There were no options for us except to drive the car until the engine fails. I am concerned about the safety of my mom when this will happen. Hyundai should compensate the customer and guarantee their cars. An engine should not fail after 65 000 km. I would not buy another Hyundai again.
