Hey, there! Glad you stumbled into Nuts and Bolts

What is life? Big moments? Mountain-top experiences? For most of us, those are few and far between. Life is about being there, showing up, caring for each other, doing the right thing. These are the nuts and bolts of life.

I grew up in a little town in northwest Iowa where my parents ran a hardware store. That town and that store and my parents gave me a set of values and a point of view that has stayed with me while my education carried me into the wider world.

As I walk my dog, Hardware Hank, I think about the world and my neighborhood, and then we come home and I write about what I’m reading and thinking about while Hank conks out. Lucky dog.

Just like you, I’m trying to make sense of it all. Let’s hang in there together and fight the good fight to save democracy.

Sometimes, though, I need to laugh, so I hope my scribbling will help you laugh along.

Let’s get to it!
