Overview
A woodsy hike just steps away from a charming village center.
HIGHLAND FALLS, Orange County (32 acres) — If rocky bluffs, mossy forest, and Hudson River views are your vibe, head on over to the new Highland Falls Preserve. Located right off the village Main Street, the park features a scenic loop trail with glimpses of historic ruins and stone steps up to an overlook and community picnic area. While you’re hiking, keep your eyes peeled for a flash of yellow from pine warblers high up in the pitch pines. The trees they call home have not only adapted to withstand wildfires, but even benefit from them — the resin covering their cones must be melted to release seeds!
This preserve was made possible through a collaborative partnership between the Village of Highland Falls, Scenic Hudson, and a committee of dedicated residents, with funding for public access improvements from the New York State Hudson River Valley Greenway. It is managed by the Village of Highland Falls.
