Exhibit on view September 15 - December 18
Friday, September 18, 2026 – Friday, December 18, 2026
Charles P. Stevenson Jr. Library
Did George Washington pray? This archives exhibit explores a long-standing controversy surrounding a manuscript prayerbook given to the College in 1895 by Rev.Charles Frederick Hoffman, who, like many others, believed it was written by George Washington. On display are archival items and facsimiles from the Bard College Archives and the Washington National Cathedral. Curated by Helene Tieger '85, Head of Archives and Special Collections at Stevenson Library.
This exhibit is on view on the third floor of Stevenson Library in conjunction with "Not the Thing He Supposed It" symposium on October 23.

The Art of Archival Practice with Julia Weist
Inaugural event for The Uses of History initiative.
Monday, October 19, 2026
5:00 pm – 7:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
Charles P. Stevenson Jr. Library
In this presentation, visual artist Julia Weist will discuss her research-based practice and how it dovetails with her teaching in Bard's undergraduate Studio Art program. Weist has used archival material to illuminate the complexities of governance, institutional power, surveillance and censorship. Her works, which often take the form of richly-layered photographic collages, are frequently collected or presented by the same civic and cultural archives that serve as Weist's subjects. This collapse of the boundary between research and production is a hallmark of Weist's work as well as of the courses she teaches, such as Archives as Material.

Charles P. Stevenson Jr. Library, Room 206, Computer Lab
Need to write a literature review for your Sproj, master’s thesis, or a course you're taking, but unsure what the heck one is? This workshop--which will give you hands-on practice constructing a review--is for you. You'll also learn why the literature review is a crucial element of research writing, how it differs from an annotated bibliography, and tips for writing a good one. Please join Jane Smith, associate director for library writing support, on Wednesday, October 28, from 7–8:15 pm in the Stevenson Library Classroom on the second floor (room 206).
