About Wine Is Confusing.

Wine Is Confusing embraces the shape-shifting truth, lore, and nuance that characterizes the story of wine. Wine is a lens through which we can examine the world; considering environmental, cultural, and political contexts, we can learn about ourselves and how we got here. Wine is a network of rabbit holes—what’s your question? Jump in. Be ready to come up with an answer and seven more questions.

Based in Western North Carolina

In early 2024, I made the shift from working in wine bars in Charlotte, North Carolina, to moving to the mountainous wine region surrounding Asheville. Despite there being over 200 wineries in North Carolina, it appeared that not many hospitality professionals knew about the wines being made here. This newsletter aims to bridge that knowledge gap, to challenge the stigma that southern wine bears, and to explore the ways that wine is a reflection of our humanity rather than a product of industry.

There’s no publishing schedule for the newsletter - some months I write every week and some months I don’t write—instead, I’m out in the world gathering material, drinking, and being merry. I thank my subscribers for appreciating the ebb and flow of the creative aspect of this work.
