My name is Troy Putney, and I am a writer, photographer, and conservationist hoping to help others fall in love with this planet and join in the movement to create a more sustainable and just society.
I didn’t come to Substack comfortably or easily, and, in fact, it’s more like I came here kicking and screaming. I love to write, but am often terrified to share. It’s taken me years to silence my inner critic, to trust that art finds the right hearts, and that not every writer is for every person. So with that in mind, and unless I have credited it to someone else, every poem, essay, story, thought, and photo on this account are an expression of my art and life.
My hope is that something here inspires you in some way to live a more fulfilling, healthier, and more sustainable life. We live in a time with unique challenges, but I believe the way in and through the madness and the mayhem of this moment is the same as it has always been — through opening our hearts, sharing our experiences, and using the collective brilliance of humanity to leave this world better than we found it.
So thank you for joining me here. Feel free to share and discuss my works. I personally struggle with the inherent ickiness of financial exchanges. My natural tendency is to give for free and trust that kindness and generosity begets kindness and generosity. In that spirit, I plan to keep my Substack free to everyone — but it is also open for subscriptions to those who wish to further support my work. I do not know where this experiment will take me, but I trust you all will show me the way.
In deep gratitude,
-t
