Welcome, Friend.

In the winter of 2010, I sat at an antique sewing machine, foggy and directionless, a new mom craving something I couldn’t define. Born a poet, words and wit failed me in those early days of motherhood. But when I listened to the rhythm of needle and thread, something made sense. So I mended.

As I mended patchwork samplings, I pieced together a small side business originally called pendrops couture (soon I would re-name it The Mending Space). Sharing my handmade creations and my heart through offerings on Etsy and Instagram led me to a tender circle that just kept growing. Steeping myself in this creative outlet lifted the fog and, within a few years, words flowed through again.

In the years since, I have learned how to welcome pen and paper when words come through and honor the linen and twine when it’s time to mend. That has been a guiding light in this Mending Space for 16 years. But over the past several years, I have felt an expansion of my world and of what this space can become as I’ve leaned closer to a passion that has woven itself through most of my life: a calling to walk with those who need mental and emotional support.

As I turn the page on this next chapter of The Mending Space, I am excited to share articles that will be less grounded in my personal stories and more rooted in research-based reflections. I aim to share with warmth, serenity, and clarity, focusing on the mental, emotional, and relational well-being of women. You’ll find brief, digestible articles about the following topics close to my mind and heart:

What you’ll find here on The Mending Space on Substack is my best creative efforts coupled with evidence-based inspiration and encouragement. You’ll find stories, poetry, and blessings that touch on everything from the artist life to healing trauma, from relationships to loss and grief, from the high sensitivity trait to philosophy and psychology . . . and so much more. Everything belongs here in The Mending Space. I’m excited to connect as we explore the deeper questions with compassion and honesty.

Please take a look around to see if what I share serves you. Take gentle care, friend. I’m glad you’ve stopped by.
