We built The Market House for investors, thinkers, and market-watchers who want clarity and good conversation on tap.
It’s not necessarily about building something new… more like restoring what has been lost in an ocean of memes and slogans and hot takes and - heaven help us - ‘gurus’.
We are a small, independent team led by Maggie Lake, longtime journalist and co-founder of The Market House, joined by colleagues who believe finance deserves better than the daily circus it has become. We’re building this ourselves, without a safety net and without any funding, because we believe there’s a better way to talk about money and markets: clear, civil, and maybe even a little fun.
Maggie hosts Talking Markets, our flagship show, live at 4pm ET on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays here on Substack, with “wait, I didn’t catch that” write-ups the following day.

Why “The Market House”?
Because we want to build a cozy venue, not a podium (there are enough 1-way broadcasting folks around already). Think of The Market House as that cool local pub where the conversation flows, the staff are welcoming, the company’s great - and not enough people know about it(!)

The quality of the folks writing here about finance is unparalleled. We invite you to take a look at our recommended publications - the brainpower and level of commentary in there is, frankly, staggering.
A second reason is that we don’t want to play the algorithm game that has sadly sent so many down the path of clickbait, SHOUTY HEADLINES, and a complete abandonment of nuance. You know who we’re talking about.
How often do you publish?
Talking Markets airs three times a week (Mon/Wed/Fri, 4pm ET), with the back-of-the-coaster notes published the next day. More shows are being added imminently… stay tuned.
Who’s behind this?
We’re a tiny (3 people…!) independent team, bootstrapping this from scratch. No corporate backing, no hedge fund agenda, no hidden masters. Just us.
