About The Literary Compass

A home for readers who believe words can change a life.

This newsletter began with quotes — the small, luminous sentences that feel like someone handing you a warm cup of truth. But over time it became clear that The Literary Compass wasn’t meant to stay small. It wanted to grow into a place where literature meets lived experience; where we study the inner worlds of writers not as distant figures but as human beings who stumbled, questioned, broke, rebuilt, and wrote their way through it.

Here, I explore the lives and obsessions of writers from across centuries — not just what they wrote, but why. What haunted them. What shaped them. What they taught us without ever meaning to.

And alongside these literary deep-dives, I share my own story — the quiet rebuild after loss, the slow unravelling of old beliefs, the unexpected ways books helped me find a life that finally fits. Literature has always been my compass, but now I write to offer you one too.

Flannery O’Connor once said,

“I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.”

I understand that more with every passing year.

About Me

I’m Georgia — author of Quote Therapy, The Synergy Game, Ashes & Wildflowers, and a growing library of meditations, journals, and literary projects across georgiaclare.com.

I grew up in North Wales without a television and with an overactive imagination — books were both escape and education, a doorway into worlds that felt bigger than my own. Some of my happiest childhood memories are of walking hand in hand with my grandfather to the little village bookshop, where he’d let me choose a new treasure from the shelves.

I’ve been writing ever since — poetry, essays, reflections, stories of rebuilding and becoming. My work lives at the intersection of literature and life: how books shape us, how stories heal us, and how the right words at the right moment can change everything.

If you love books, quotes, heartbreakingly honest writing, and the quiet magic of rebuilding your life through language — you’ll feel at home here.
