Close readings of literature, philosophy and contemporary discourse — from essays to articles and beyond.

Welcome to The gem review

I’m g.m. and here are two notions that inform by Substack:

  1. I enjoy close analysis of literature

  2. I don’t like colour.

Thus I created The gem* review so I could interact with the novels (and philosophy) in an attentive way. Book reviews should be more than long summaries of the blurb so I embark on quiet quote-driven analyses of both literature and philosophy that are inter-personal and inter-connected to the society we live in.

*“The gem” could stand for all the hidden treasures waiting to be discovered in the texts we read and the moments of clarity that come when we finally understand what the writer was really trying to tell us. But it is in fact my initials!
