Customise barcode label layouts on Point of Sale for iOS
Sellers choose which fields to print on a label, including item name, SKU, price and supplier information, then adjust the sizing and rearrange the content. Layouts are set and printed from the barcode printing options in Point of Sale on iOS. Available to sellers on Square Plus and above.
Dark mode in Invoices
Square Invoices follows your device's system appearance setting, so the app appears in dark mode when the phone is set to dark — no setup required. If you'd like the app to look different from the rest of your device, you can set an override in **Settings > Appearance**, and that choice stays in place regardless of the system setting.
Drag tickets into a new sequence on Kitchen Display System
Kitchen staff set the prep sequence themselves instead of working through tickets in the order they were sent through. A custom sequence holds until that ticket is completed, and manual ordering applies across main, expo and station views. On the Kitchen Display System device, go to **Settings** > **Layout**, then set **Ticket sequence** to **Manual**.
Refund a card with no original sale on record
Staff can issue refunds from Transactions in Square Point of Sale, even when Square has no record of the original sale. Refunds are processed by amount or against selected items, and the refunded card can be inserted, tapped, or keyed in manually. Sellers set access per team-member permission, and refunds are capped at a configurable amount per transaction.
Set the modifier sequence on printed kitchen tickets
Each item carries its own modifier sequence, set per item in the **Modifiers** section of Item Library in Dashboard. Tickets printed from Point of Sale follow that sequence instead of the checkout sequence, matching the sequencing already available on Kitchen Display System. Only modifiers available on Point of Sale follow the sequence. This feature is available to Square Plus sellers on Square for Restaurants.
Set variation preselection and customisation skipping per item
Each item carries two separate settings that control what happens when it's tapped on Point of Sale. **Automatically select first variation** pre-selects the first variation, such as a size, which staff confirm or change. **Skip customisation when possible** bypasses the item details screen when every required selection is already satisfied. Both settings live on the item in Dashboard and apply in Standard, F&B and Retail modes.
Sort kitchen ticket items by seat number
A Seat option in the item sort order prints shared and table-share items first, then remaining items in ascending seat order. Items print as a flat list, with no seat headers or sections. The option applies to Kitchen Display System chits, Kitchen Display System printed tickets, and Square Point of Sale printed tickets on iOS and Android.
Updated Checkout grid with visible basket
The Checkout item grid has a new look, making it easier to find and add items, categories, discounts and more. The basket updates in real time, and a redesigned item detail view keeps it visible while staff choose variations and modifiers. Sellers can turn it off in Dashboard under **What's New** > **Early Feature Access**, where one switch covers both the item grid and Live Cart.
Camera barcode scanning on Android devices
Sellers use the built-in camera on Android devices to scan barcodes for adding items to the basket or creating and editing catalogue items. The feature activates by pressing the volume key. It can be enabled under **More** > **Settings** > **Hardware** > **Camera Barcode Scanner**.
Custom sounds and volume control for Kitchen Device System alerts
The new-ticket alert on Kitchen Display System (KDS) can be set to any notification sound available on the device. A sound picker with preview and a device volume slider appear in the display's Timers & alerts settings, so sellers can choose a sound and adjust the volume without leaving the app.
Customisable background colours for modifier tiles on Point of Sale
Sellers assign custom background colours to individual modifiers, making them easier to distinguish on the Square Point of Sale screen. Colours are set from Square Dashboard under **Items & Services** > **Items** > **Modifiers** by selecting a modifier set and choosing **Customise** next to any modifier. Both Kitchen Display System and Point of Sale colours can be set from the same screen.
Error alerts for unrecognised scales and scanner-scales
When a scale or scanner-scale cable is connected but Square Point of Sale can't fully recognise the device, an error message appears in Hardware Hub. The alert includes troubleshooting steps so sellers can resolve connectivity issues.
Group ordering on Point of Sale
Multiple guests in the same group add items to a single consolidated kitchen ticket. The kitchen receives one merged ticket per group rather than separate tickets for each guest. Each guest settles their own share independently when it's time to pay.
Keypad tab for custom amounts in real-time bill view
A Keypad tab appears to the left of the menu in the Menu applet for sellers using real-time bill view. Sellers enter a custom amount, add an optional note, and add it directly to the open bill without creating a catalogue item first.
Option to show dine-in fulfilment in the Point of Sale basket
A per-mode setting controls whether the dine-in fulfilment row appears in the checkout basket. Sellers using Full Service, Quick Service, Bar, or Drive-Thru modes find the option under **More** > **Settings** > **Checkout** > **Basket**. Quick Service and Drive-Thru modes have the setting enabled by default.
Preset tip percentages on invoice payments
Sellers set preset tip percentage buttons that appear when customers pay an invoice on the web. Customers select a preset amount or enter a custom tip. The setting is available under invoices in Square Point of Sale or Square Dashboard.
Quantity bar for real-time bill view on Point of Sale
Sellers using real-time bill view select an item quantity before adding it to a bill. For configurable items, the selected quantity carries through modifier selection and applies when the item is added. The quantity bar is off by default but turns on automatically for sellers who previously used the calculator in real-time bill view.
Sales Report updates for refunds, comparisons and dates
The Sales Report on Square Point of Sale shows both itemised returns and by-amount refunds in the Sales Summary overview, with consistent terminology on iOS and Android. Period-over-period comparisons on Android measure matching timeframes, and the date-range selector works when starting from a preset.
Attach add-on services in the online booking flow
Sellers attach add-on services to any bookable appointment – each with its own price and duration. Buyers select add-on services when booking an appointment online.
Change measurement units during stock counts
Sellers switch between measurement units whilst performing a full or cycle inventory count. For example, a count can be recorded in individual units, cases or other configured units without leaving the count screen.
Dark mode in Square Appointments
Square Appointments supports a dark mode display option. Sellers can switch between light and dark themes based on their preference.
Exclude specific items or categories from discounts
Sellers can exclude specific items from discount promotions, preventing those products from being discounted at checkout. Exclusions are set per item and apply across all channels where the item is active.
Low-stock alert emails scheduled by location opening hours
Sellers receive low-stock alert emails 90 minutes after each location's closing time, rather than at one fixed time for the whole account. For sellers with several locations, each alert arrives at the end of that location's day instead of mid-shift. No new setting or action required.
Move ready tickets to front on Kitchen Display System expo
An opt-in setting on the expo Kitchen Display System (KDS) moves tickets to the front of the queue once all prep stations mark them complete. This helps expo staff prioritise orders that are ready for final assembly or hand-off while other tickets still need prep work.
Schedule price updates from Dashboard
Sellers schedule bulk price changes to catalogue items from Square Dashboard. Prices update automatically at the scheduled date and time.
