A zine titled “Survival by Sharing” that I published in 2023 to distribute writing about AI, queer history, and archival justice.

I’m an artist and educator based in Providence, Rhode Island. SURVIVAL BY SHARING is a place for my occasional writing, images, and updates. I’ve decided to start publishing here just as I begin a one-year sabbatical away from full-time teaching in June 2024, but I hope to continue way beyond the next year. My wish (and need!) is that this carrier bag assemblage of posts becomes an extension of my studio practice—a place to wander, experiment, and think out loud, in the company of friends.

For me, survival by sharing describes a joyful approach to making public, even in times of crisis. It’s a phrase I’m borrowing across time from Come!Unity Press, a “gay anarchist collective print shop that provided free printing materials and a shared living space for social and political activists,” operating in NYC in the early 1970s. I’m always longing and searching for queer ancestry, and sometimes I follow faint, distant signals and carry them with me as a kind of “being long” across time and space. I hope to gather and share some of those signals here.

This newsletter will always be free for everyone to read, and I’m so grateful for the company. There is also an option to become a paid subscriber—if you wish to pay, please know that you’re directly supporting my work, making it a bit easier for me to sustain my practice.
