About Meredith
Hey y’all. I started blogging in 2010 as a baby triathlete. I wrote for the better part of 10 years, and then really struggled to write a single word. Substack, after years of slogging with Wordpress and other mediums, is a fresh start for me.
It’s also my most vulnerable, raw and honest writing yet.
You can get my high-level bio in lots of places, but at the end of the day I am these things: author, attorney, mom of two teens, wife to the same guy for over 22 years, a struggling EXvangelical fighting daily to be grateful and remain firmly rooted in sobriety.
Why Subscribe?
For now, I will be doing most of my writing on the new Sober Shots substack.
If you subscribe on my main stack, you will get any updates or non-sobriety writings. This is a free subscription.
Over on the Sober Shots substack, you will get access to all past and future posts, the community, newsletter and publication archives. All Sober Shots posts are behind the paywall to protect the delicateness of this world I am in right now.
Why not just offer everything for free? Well, a couple of reasons. For over ten years, I have put out a huge source of totally free content: posts, articles, podcasts and free events. Even my triathlon book was free for a long while.
Despite appearances, it was all never a money-maker where I didn’t have other jobs (e.g., hi, I’m still a lawyer :)).
At age 45, I don’t feel the need to give away so much of myself any more. This paywall also allows me to feel safer, more free, and more able to be honest, and real. It keeps away the pigeons (those who fly by a post and drop their sh*tty comments). I’m posting my real thoughts, real life and I don’t feel like providing a free-for-all any more. Anyone who has been with me since the beginning can surely understand.
I will aim to post weekly on Sober Shots, and often more (if I know myself).
In the event that I cannot post on a regular basis, I will totally cancel / pause / halt any subscriptions. I will take my content seriously, and aim to give you my best.
That being said, if you really need this writing and cannot afford $5 a month, I understand. Please DM me via Instagram (@Meredith.Atwood) and request a scholarship. Please let me know who you are and why you need it. I am glad to do this, but please only ask if you have a true need. 🩵
You can also gift subscriptions to others.
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to opening my heart and words again. It’s a scary process, but I know it’s the right thing. 🩵
