About Me and this Substack

I’m an independent film producer with the New York-based Forensic Films, I cofounded Filmmaker Magazine, and I edited that magazine and website for 33 years. My producing credits include Kitty Green’s The Assistant and Casting JonBenet, Peter Sollett’s Raising Victor Vargas, Tom Noonan’s What Happened Was…, Alice Wu’s Saving Face, Elisabeth Subrin’s A Woman, A Part and Harmony Korine’s Gummo and julien donkey-boy.

After leaving Filmmaker in January, 2026 — 33 years is a long time! — I’m focusing on producing. But I also like to write, hence this Substack, which will blend commentary on the independent film scene and its producing culture with hopefully helpful information and opinion culled from my own producing practice.
