Bio

My name is Rita Robles Loaiza, and my professional journey currently revolves around two areas that constantly intersect: Computer Systems Engineering and higher education. I find it fascinating how these two worlds converge and create what I like to call a “chaordic” space, where chaos and order coexist and complement each other. Chaos pushes us to challenge the status quo, innovate, and seek new solutions, while order represents the structure, methodology, and critical thinking that define engineering education.

I would not describe myself as a conventional engineer. My interest in understanding and improving learning experiences led me to specialize in UX Design, allowing me to apply human-centered design principles to education and enhance the learning journey of future technology professionals.

Currently, I serve as the Associate Director of On-Campus Programs at the Faculty of Computer Science at Universidad Fidélitas in Costa Rica, where I work on initiatives related to academic innovation, educational quality, and strengthening engineering education. At the same time, I work as a WordPress Specialist at GreenGeeks, contributing to the growth and evolution of the WordPress ecosystem from both professional and community perspectives.

My journey within the global WordPress community has been defined by event organization, mentorship, contributor onboarding, and the development of educational initiatives that bring open source and community contribution closer to university students and emerging technology professionals.

I currently have the honor of serving as the WordPress Credits Admin for Latin America, an initiative sponsored by Automattic that aims to strengthen the relationship between academia and the WordPress project through structured contribution experiences recognized by educational institutions.

One of the most significant milestones of my career has been leading the initiative that enabled Universidad Fidélitas to become the first university in the world to make the WordPress Credits program a mandatory component of one of its degree programs, establishing a precedent for the formal integration of open-source contribution into higher education curricula.

I am also a strong advocate for women in STEM, actively promoting initiatives that increase the visibility, participation, and leadership of women in technology and open-source communities.

Outside of my professional life, I am passionate about Costa Rica’s most iconic product—coffee—particularly specialty coffee, an interest that I enjoy complementing with another of my hobbies: the art of mixology.

WordPress Origin Story

WordPress came into my life in 2016 while I was in the last year of my career, on that occasion I participated in a Meetup at the University of Costa Rica, a space that introduced me to a community that from that moment welcomed me with open arms. WordPress gave a complete turn to my way of working, and gave me the opportunity to choose it as my favorite stack to my clients, having done more than 20 successful projects with this technology.
