The Journey: Grace for Grief
Dear Subscriber,
By way of introduction, I’m a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a grief counselor, an author, a former college professor, a master gardener, a lover of books, a spinning class enthusiast, and I’m a bereaved mother.
I’m sharing my journey through the wilderness of losing my twenty-year-old daughter in 2006. I share the unexpected turns in the road with moments of despair, and the gradual return to the shimmering light. Maybe you have been there too, lost in the wanderings of sorrow, wondering if joy is just a relic of the past. Together we will discover after the deepest hurt, we have hope and grace and can reach for each day’s sunrise.
I’m excited to have you join my column and hope that you will continue this journey with me as I navigate others to find grace and joy again. My journey has now been 18 years but in some ways it only seems like yesterday my daughter was calling me from her college dorm. My joy remains today in the memories of her laugh, and the playfullness of her personality. Stick around to see more of Morgan’s light, that I hope to share with others.
Looking forward to getting to know you,
Pam K. McCarty
My Writing
Story Summit- I have been a member of Story Summit for two years. It is a mentor writing group that builds community and connection while delivering world class instruction in the art of writing. It is a unique program that brings celebrity guest lecturers, faculty coaching sessions, year-long support in getting books published and manuscripts produced. It has over 2,500 members.
I am currently participating in a small group mentorship program with New York Times and USA Today best-selling author, Julie Cantrell. I am writing a creative non-fiction memoir that describes losing my daughter, Morgan, at age 20 to a hit-and-run accident on her college campus.
My book, Grace for Grief, A Mother’s Journey of Love and Loss, a story of heartache and the journey of recovery and finding grace and joy. My second book is an anthology sharing 8 mothers’ stories of their journey of losing their child. Whispers of Grief, Wings of Hope, An Anthology of Eleven Mother’s Loss, is a guide to help parents that have lost children to see the light and recover by reading how other parents coped the rest of their lives. Looking for both books 2026.
