reserved a car - they did not have one for us
We reserved a car a month ago. We arrived at airport late, with an hour drive ahead to our lodging, and elderly companions. They did not have the car I reserved, a basic SUV. Only thing available is a...a cargo van. I had to take it.
It's not useable for us. My relatives are too frail to get in and out of this monstrosity. I can't drive it to the wedding venue. Thrifty has no other cars available; their AI voice says its my resposibility to find a location with car that I reserved. I have been on the phone for an hour, and Thrifty has basically said, tough luck. Never again with this company! Never! What is wrong with these clowns?

We were travelling to Portland and had a reservation for a Convertible (my wife wanted one to drive to the Red Woods).
We had travel problems with the flight out of the Chicago Airport and were going to be late ... my Travel Agent Contacted them Again to inform them we were going to be late and that we still wanted our reservation.
When we finally got there they said they didn't have it and they really didn't care at all.
Poor service, Poor attitude, Poor Company

AVOID THIS COMPANY!!
My partner and I hired a car and when we arrived to pick it up the lady told us we had to pay a €1200 deposit! She also then told us we could only pay using a credit card which I didn’t have, when I told her I didn’t have one she then started to say she could accept debit. I asked the lady if all the car dealers were the same with the deposit amount and she said yes, I went across the road to another company which only required a €150 deposit & were super helpful.
Experience with Hertz-Dollar-Thrifty, Raleigh-Durham Airport, NC
I rented a car at Raleigh-Durham Airport at the Hertz-Dollar-Thrifty location on August 1 for 1 day.
I was allotted a car that had damage to the moon roof. I rejected the car and got another rental car in exchange.
I have an email from the company stating I returned the car without any damage and I have the rental car report showing the car I rented out with the report saying the car had no damage.
After a week of renting the car I received an email to fill out an incident report for the original car I was allotted. I did not fill it out and ignored the emails as I assumed they will correct the mistake. I have now been charged $1636.26 for the damage to the moon roof and a $150.0 administrative fee. I have provided the claim support at hertz and the customer relations with all the evidence, some of which were from there website, to show I did not rent the car with the damaged moonroof. Customer relations department asked me to contact Claims as they "CANNOT" retrieve the documents (despite me providing the updated car agreement with case number and agreement number). The Claims department has not replied to my mail. I have contacted a representative who gave me another email of claims official and there has been no reply from her either.
I have never had such response from any other car rental agency, I would like to give a rating of 0 if possible.

Buffalo Airport DISASTER
October 3 Buffalo Airport, day before Bills NFL game. Arrived 11:50 for 12:00 pickup. Long queue (single line for Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty. 2 counter agents. ~30 folks awaiting a car after having shown ID to first agent. After 2 hours waiting and hearing the horror stories of folks near me, some who returned thus day because HDT overbooked Friday by 70 reservations. After 2.5 hrs waiting for my name to be called, I inquired at agent 2 whether I can expect a car today (another recent incoming flight now added ~25 folks to the queue for agent 1). Was told Gold members are first to get a car, then Hertz, then Dollar, the Thrifty...and he had not filled one Thrifty ticket that Saturday. I left without a car because I knew I, and many others, would not get a car that day. The OVERBOOKING is unlimited. I am 72 and we'll traveled. I'll do my best to avoid HDT on future travel. One star given because it seemed that field required an entry to proceed to this review.
At Alicante airport Spain
At Alicante airport Spain, they charge for extras that you clearly decline when taking the rental vehicle. The price quoted on their website is not the price you pay once you have returned the vehicle and returned to the UK.I had my own CDW insurance and yet they charged me for extras I declined , but as the sales administrators must clearly get paid commission on ripping customers off. I wish I could give a minus figure
Terrible
Terrible. Boston airport.
Queue of 50 people and one poor girl on the desk. Didn't have any car's despite a pre booking. Utter shambles
DO NOT BOOK HERE
No suitable cars available at pickup and only option was a $150 upcharge to a minivan which, as a single traveler, I did not need. This amounts to coercion as well as bait and switch.
No cars available with a reservation made a week…
No cars with a reservation made a week before. Everyone waiting over a hour for their rentals. They text you the info that all is well till you get there and sit and wait. No car for you.
Do not use this company
Booked via Ryan air for car hire in Alicante. At the pickup desk, despite saying I didn’t want any additional insurance (as I had known cover), they stuck on breakdown cover without me realising. The car had multiple dents and scratches, but none were marked and it was up to me to photograph them before leaving. Luckily I did so, else I’m sure they would have charged me for the damage when I returned the car. I certainly won’t be using this company again and wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.
They will change your time to scam
They will change your drop off time to try and rip you off and charge you more, horrible customer service, slow incompetent employees, overall a scam. Would give 0 stars if I could
Understaffed and Unprofessional Counter, Long Wait, and an App That Doesn’t Work
Very disappointing experience with Thrifty at San Francisco Airport. The rental counter was severely understaffed. Only one of the four stations appeared to be serving customers, resulting in an extremely long and slow-moving line.
To make matters worse, their app did not work properly, so I couldn’t fully complete the rental process in advance and save time at pickup. There also seemed to be repeated issues with reservations at the counter, requiring corrections and creating even more delays.
After a long flight, having to wait this long just to pick up a car that was already reserved was extremely frustrating. Thrifty needs better staffing, a reliable app, and a much more efficient pickup process at this location.
Based on my experience, I would not rent from this location again.
Overpriced due to deceptive practices
We made our Thrifty Car rental reservation through Expedia. At that time, we paid a $56.00 fee for insurance coverage. When we arrived at the Thrifty check-in counter at the Salt Lake City airport the agent insisted that in order to rent the car, we had to purchase their additional insurances. We questioned this because the total cost was more than double that of the original booking with Expedia. We showed the agent our Expedia receipt and he said that our receipt didn't mean anything. We kept asking for a simple explanation of the reason we had to buy their insurance. We received no explanation. There was a long line behind us, and we needed to get on the road, so we paid the bill. I would have given them a rating of zero if it was possible. We are frequent travelers and have rented cars dozens of times with other car rental companies through Expedia. We have never had such a negative experience as we did with Thrifty. We thought we would try Thrifty because it seemed that their prices were very competitive. With their hidden fees and deceptive practices our total cost was more than double what it would normally be with honest practices. Before you rent from Thrifty, I recommend getting all of the facts and figures first.
I was scheduled to pick up a mid-sized…
I was scheduled to pick up a mid-sized SUV in Durham NC. When I arrived at the small rental office, the people working there were actually surprised that there was a reservation for anyone that day. They bumbled around and finally found my record. They admitted they didn’t have a car that matched what I reserved. So they “upgraded” me to another car, which wasn’t clean. I waited about 1/2 hour as they got it into presentable shape. I prepaid my gas and got in to the car to find the tank was not full. And it still wasn’t clean. So, more shop vacuuming right in front of me. I finally got on the road about 40 minutes later than the 12 noon pickup time, which was very frustrating. I had a three hour drive ahead of me and I was already a little late. About 5 minutes into the trip the dash board light for tire pressure lit up. So I had to find a gas station with an air pump. This threw off my travel time by another 15 minutes. Also, there was no windshield wiper fluid (which I added when I arrived at my destination). Oh, and at weird intervals, the car would make this loud sound like I was driving over one of those rumble strips. (I was not). And lastly, I needed a few gallons of gas to make sure I had enough to get back to the rental office. I popped the gas tank door to find the car didn’t even have a gas cap. And the tires needed air again.
When I returned the car, I mentioned all these issues with the person who took my keys. He was not at all apologetic. He was almost disbelieving what I was telling him, bordering on rude. I can say, I will never rent a car again from this company.
Terrible service we booked through them…
Terrible service we booked through them six months before our car hire and rented a Ford Mustang to then get to the check-in desk of getting the car and realising they no longer stock Ford Mustangs and the next thing we got given was a jeep which is completely different. They didn’t bother writing us an email or getting in contact with us letting us know that we weren’t getting the car we had paid for. We also had a spare tire which had a massive puncture in it which meant if we had a flat tire we would be in bother definitely would not recommend poor customer service lack of communication didn’t have the car we wanted and rather than letting us know in advance, they just told us when we were there definitely wouldn’t use again
Road trip from San Fransisco
Road trip from San Fransisco, went to collect my car which should have been a surburban or similar, the counter agent told me there was no car available due to it being labour weekend. Initial offer was a highlander, however the counter agent advised that as we had 4 passengers, 4 large suit cases and hand luggage and a large wheelchair this would be far too small. After a "chat" with his manager came back and offered a grand jeep wagoneer at an extra cost of $1020, at no time was this advised that this was an upgrade. I contacted my travel company to complain about this, after investigating thrifty advised that we declined the initial offer of the car and requested an upgrade, unfortunately this was a case of he said i said and they refused to refund. Please be cautious about this company they took advantage of me and my family following an 11.30 hour flight.
Had a great experience
Had a great experience, when I returned car. There was a billing issue Edwin the manager quickly responded and resolved it for me. Will definitely rent with Thrifty again.

I rented a thrifty car in Ireland for a week. The car KIA ? Was a heap of junk. Frontend steering was badly misaligned and it was a small old model ( manual) and not the Ford Focus automatic which I ordered. No apology from the Thrifty desk people ( just acted dumb).
Car rental fiasco!
Me and my wife booked the car to pick up at the Charleston airport in South Carolina.
Are flight was delayed and we did let the car rental company know that we will be late to pick up the car.
The car rental place is advertised to stay open till 1am
Are flight landed 12:36 and we ran thru airport to make it to the car rental counter.after arriving 12:50 nobody was there but sign said go to the garage which we did.we got there 12:55 and nobody on site.
We ended up taking uber to the hotel.we called in the morning to resolve the issue.thrifty people offered no explanation nor the apology.they said if you notified them that your flight was delayed theyre policy is that somebody has to be there upto 2 hours past 1am.wasn’t the case!to answer to are question how we can resolve thus issue they simply said we can make new reservation.no compensation no apology!
We took uber back to the airport to the thrifty car rental.explaining are story again they offered nothing.
We asked can we atleast get free upgrade on car for some kind of compensation they agreed to upgrade are midsize sedan to full size suv which we agreed.walking from counter to the garage we where handed key’s to the compact suv and the guy said there is nothing he can do.at this point we where just exhausted from fighting to are rights and accept it!
Would never rent any car from thrifty nor hertz who owns them anymore!
