Disappointing
A year earlier to this incident, we had had a Power of Attorney document prepared by our lawyers which then needed the witnessing of our signatures on the document somewhere else. We went in to the Perpetual Guardian Remuera branch in Auckland where they happily did this for us.
On updating the document a year later, we went in again to have someone witness our signatures, and were turned away. We were told that this is not something the Perpetual Guardian do and to go find a another lawyer or a family friend to do it. We had our passports and ID available and all that would have been required was for any staff member to site the ID and witness our signatures on the document, as they had happily done a year earlier.
In NZ, all legal firms provide this service free to members of the public. It's a real shame that Perpetual Guardian, (who also manage people's wills and estates) no longer do this too.
Such a small service they could provide to support their local community!
