Welcome to Continental Breakfast!!!!!

My name is Natalie Compton. I’ve been a professional travel writer for the better part of a decade. Traveling (on and off duty) has taken me to nearly 60 countries and every continent. I’ve covered a lot of superlatives, from the the world’s biggest pizza convention to its northernmost brewery.

This blog/newsletter is a way to share my latest stories with you, plus the behind-the-scenes side of being a travel writer.

Why Continental Breakfast?

A continental breakfast is never the point of the trip. It’s an unglamorous part of the slog, a means to an end. C.B. celebrates just that — the less-noteworthy in-between.

The idea came in 2021 on a reporting trip to Jackson, Wyoming. I was posting about my morning on my Instagram stories for the folks at home.

My rental car was packed with avalanche gear, waterproof layers, and a plate of food from the hotel buffet. “Along for the ride with me,” I told the camera before panning down to the limp bacon sitting shotgun, “is my continental breakfast.”

When I checked my inbox later, I saw that author / fisherman / life advice guru David Coggins had replied: “Your podcast/film production company should be called ‘Continental Breakfast.’”

An Instagram message from David Coggins says: “Your podcast/film production company should be called ‘Continental Breakfast.’”

A special thanks to Dan Bransfield

The artist extraordinaire who designed the Continental Breakfast logo. Follow him on Instagram to see his spectacular illustrations of travel, pizza, San Francisco and more.
