Most people write about wars from a desk.
I write about them after getting on a plane.
I served for 16 years in the British Army (2005-21), leaving the Parachute Regiment as a Major. I completed three tours in Afghanistan, including one with the US Army Special Forces, with further tours in Bosnia, Northern Ireland, and the Middle East.
In 2024, I visited Gaza twice, as well as exploring captured Hezbollah tunnels in Lebanon. In 2025, I was the first neutral researcher invited to film a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation distribution, and I spent time on the frontlines in Ukraine.
With degrees in Law, War Studies and Psychology, I’m one of the very few academic researchers who actually goes to the front lines of conflict zones, speaks to the people living through them, and then comes home to make sense of it all – alongside sustained coverage of strategic and domestic political issues.
