Welcome!
Thank you for being here! In these pages you will find stories of my close encounters with the nature on my doorstep. I hope you will stay a while, and discover tales of foxes and badgers, mice and birds, and even insects and fungi. I’m fascinated by all aspects of nature - from the tiniest insect to the most spectacular trees.
My name is Melissa and my appreciation for nature was born out of an upbringing on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. A childhood spent paddling in streams, climbing trees, and falling in patches of nettles led to a move in my late thirties, to a house in East Yorkshire, close to the River Ouse, and surrounded by fields, trees and scrub. With the luxury of an acre of space, my husband and I quickly turned over much of our space to the local wildlife. We now host many bird species, foxes, badgers, owls, mice and I suspect much more that I haven’t seen just yet.
I started this Substack as a way to record the beautiful things I see every day, and how they impact my wellbeing. Or sometimes just because they are just too cute or wonderful not to share! I hope you will join me.
All your support is greatly appreciated, and simply reading, liking and sharing mean the world to me.
If you would like to support Notes from Nature further, you may wish to consider becoming a paid subscriber. Proceeds will go towards wildlife food, creating habitats and installing live feed wildlife cameras.
Thank you so much for joining me here.
Melissa 😊
