Sycamore: A Concentrated Portfolio Management Platform

When I first launched Sycamore Capital Management, LLC as a paid platform, my focus was on qualitative equity research. The original idea was to build a research library covering an ever growing amount of different companies, with an emphasis on business quality.

I’ve realized that framing doesn’t really fit what I’m building or my current state in life. Equity research today is increasingly commoditized. However, being able to put the puzzle pieces together and make great investment decisions is a completely different (and more valuable) skill set. The real value proposition for Sycamore premium subscribers is direct insight into my high-conviction concentrated investing strategy and portfolio.

For Sycamore, this means deep qualitative research followed by actual portfolio management: conviction-based weighting, entry points, exit strategies, risk/reward balance, managing drawdowns and thesis changes, understanding valuation multiples, and more.

As I’ve said before, my batting average isn’t 1.000. My approach is grounded in Druckenmiller’s principle: “It’s not whether you’re right or wrong that’s important, but how much money you make when you’re right and how much you lose when you’re wrong.” In baseball we call this slugging percentage.

And with Sycamore, you’ll always get full transparency, good or bad. When NVDA 10x’d in two years for me, you saw it. When TTD dropped 40% in a single day last month, you saw that too. This isn’t about curating a perfect track record but showing the real process and results of high-conviction concentrated investing.

Conviction, for me, also means capital. I back my highest-conviction ideas with significant personal investment. We win together!

Output Mix

As many of you know, I have a full-time job and five young sons.

As hard as I try, I can’t give you volume. But I do underwrite a few ideas each year and I can let you into my qualitative research and portfolio management on those names.

Going forward, nothing is changing in practice, just how I frame Sycamore and its value proposition. You can continue to expect:

  • Monthly portfolio updates with full transparency as always

  • Earnings recaps and thesis underwritings and updates

  • Occasional deep qualitative reports and updates on the companies I own

This isn’t about publishing for the sake of publishing, as I see so often on Substack, it’s about sharing transparently into a strategy that for me has meant a +32% CAGR from 2020-2025.

Annual Perspective

Sycamore should be read from an annual perspective, not monthly. Some months will have more posts than others. I never publish on a certain day, which I know every newsletter consultant would tell me is my biggest hurdle to growth. Nonetheless, over the long term, the cadence will even out around the rhythm of monthly portfolio updates, quarterly earnings reports, and a handful of other posts mixed in throughout the year.

To reflect that, I’ll be adjusting pricing for new subscribers to emphasize annual subscriptions, not monthly.

Cost & Value

Behind the scenes, I spend about 50 hours every month reading, listening, thinking, and writing, which means around 600 hours a year are poured into a small handful of the best opportunities I can find and own. At only $150 /yr (or $0.25 /hr), it only takes one idea to make that investment tremendously worthwhile.

For example, in Q4 2024, when sentiment on Uber was extremely negative, I highlighted it as a high-conviction idea. The stock is now +63% YTD in 2025.

A premium subscription to Sycamore is not about quantity of posts or volume of stock ideas, but slugging percentage.

Thank you for being here and for subscribing. If you haven’t already, please consider becoming a premium subscriber for deeper insight and to support my work. I really appreciate it!
