About In Good Taste
Hello, I’m Mallika Basu… and I’m passionate about the role of food as a force for good.
My newsletter In Good Taste aims to make food lovers think by joining the dots between food, people, planet, and the way we live today without being preachy or judgemental. It was shortlisted for a Food Writing Award by the Guild of Food Writers, the UK’s association of professional writers, publishers and broadcasters.
I’m a food writer, presenter and adviser, and the author of In Good Taste: What Shapes What We Eat and Drink - and Why It Matters (Nine Bean Rows, Jan 2026). It provides a topline, digestible guide to the context around our food covering culture, diversity and sustainability. It has a foreword by Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership.
I host the In Good Taste podcast — a short, sharp and globally minded show exploring topical food matters with a dose of fun and flavour. I also write “Planet Friendlier” features for Good Food Magazine and stories and recipes on global food culture and Indian cuisine for others. I have two Indian cookbooks: Miss Masala: Real Indian Cooking for Busy Living and Masala: Indian Cooking for Modern Living.
I’d love my writing to inspire and support positive, practical change through educating, knowledge sharing or simply calling out BS in the nicest way possible. You catch more bees with honey than vinegar, after all! You can read more about me here.

Subscribe to never miss an update and join a community of curious food lovers. Every new edition lands directly in your inbox (mostly on Fridays) with occasional extras when the news (or drama) calls for it.
The newsletter is free and there are no paywalls or salesy mailshots. But if you enjoy it, please do consider supporting my work with a paid monthly or annual subscription.
