About Lara Owen

Dr Lara Owen is the author of two influential and pioneering books on menstruation: Her Blood Is Gold, first published by HarperCollins in 1993, and more recently, Reorganizing Menstruation: Menstrual innovations and the redistribution of boundaries, capitals, and labour, published by Oxford University Press in 2024. Lara holds a PhD from Monash Business School in Australia and has been academically based at the University of St Andrews since 2000, where she is now an Honorary Research Fellow. Lara teaches a master’s level course on Contemporary Menstrual Studies through her website, laraowen.com. She consults for women’s organizations, global institutions, corporations, and universities internationally, and mentors students, educators, clinicians and other professionals.
