About

Hello, I’m Jihii, a San Francisco-based writer, journalist, organizer, and mom.

I currently write Companion Machines, a series on living with intelligent tools, from the perspective of knowledge worker and parent. My questions often begin with personal inquiry and ripple out from there.

This newsletter began as Time Spent, which I wrote from December 2019 to April 2026 on how we spend our time outside of work. Over six years and 100+ letters, the ebbs and flows of navigating my own lived experience of this question collided intensely with a world asking the same questions—through a pandemic, awakening around care work, and the transformation of knowledge work through intelligent tools.

I’m currently researching a book-shaped project around them, and if you are U.S.-based, you can subscribe in print to early notes and explore my library here.

All essays on Substack remain free. If you'd like to support the newsletter, consider becoming a Sustaining Reader ($7/month).
