Welcome to INTERLOPER, a newsletter about photography.

Every month I send out either an essay or a conversation with an artist.

In previous essays I have written about the ethics of portraiture, photographing childhood, and the illusion of control. Previous artist conversations have included those with Rosalind Fox Solomon, David Campany, and Carmen Winant.

Thank you for being here!

To briefly introduce myself: I’m Alice Zoo, a photographer and writer living in London. I make photographic work about the different ways that people pursue meaning: through ritual, community, and recounted memory.

I work on commission for publications including National Geographic, The New Yorker, and The New York Times, and you may have read my writing on photography in places like Granta, the British Journal of Photography, Elephant Magazine, and Magnum Photos.
