I Tried to get into a Train 2 minutes before the departure Time, but Doors were closed already. I made a sign to the conductor who was still outside the trein and moved towards him since his door was the only one still Open.
He looked at me acknowledging me and stepped inside the trein and left anyways. U guys don’t even deserve 1 star . Try better please

Had to take a taxi to reach home

Had to take a taxi to reach home, because a tree fell down, and they were no longer going to be able to get me there. It was night time. Had cost me quite a pretty penny. Am I gonna be compensated? I hope so. But so far no answer. It's been a day or two. Let's see.

Meanest people of the world

We arrived at the station only 9 minutes before departure (12:42 for a 12:51 train) with two very young children, including a 1-year-old who was unwell and needed medication which is the reason we were there 10mins before departure.

Despite clearly being there before departure and the train still being present, we were refused boarding because the doors were already closed. The male staff member on site showed absolutely no willingness to help or think along, even though we were visibly in a difficult situation. The sign at the checkin said to be there 2 mins before instead of the 9 mins we were.

At around 12:48, a female colleague came out and briefly tried to understand the situation, as our baby was crying heavily, but ultimately nothing was done to help us board.

We were rebooked onto a replacement train at 15:51, meaning a 3+ hour wait with a sick child and another 2 year old toddler. From Brussels, there was also no suitable connection anymore to get us home to Amsterdam that same day.

At one point, while we were overwhelmed and crying because we couldn't go home (we were looking into possibilities at the helpcenter room) we were told by a staff member with short grey hair to wait outside because the waiting area was “not a waiting room,” even though the situation was clearly exceptional (crying sick baby and crying mom because we couldnt go home anymore) and not busy at all. Also she kept speaking French to us in a very mean tone and very fast like she was mad that we were there and we were crying, especially the baby being sick. And when we couldnt understand her she told us to get out because it isnt a waiting room. Where is the human touch, think with us maybe or try to think along and get us home? But no we were sent away, us not being able to go home is not her problem.

There was no sense of flexibility, empathy, or basic human understanding. For a very first(!!!) family trip with small children to Disneyland, this experience left a very negative aftertaste.

Service getting consistently worse

I have to give a Star otherwise I wouldn‘t. Tried to get into a Train 2 minutes before the departure Time, but Doors where closed already. I made a signe to the conductor who was still outside the trein and moved towards him since his door was the only one still Open. He looked at me acknowledging me and stepped inside the trein and left anyways. The other day I‘ve Seen a conductor verbally assaulting an Immigrant and the treins are almost always Late. I find The Service getting worse and worse and it wasn‘t Great to begin with.

Extremely poor train manager attitude, service quality and lack of hygiene / security in Brussels Midi station.

I had a very unpleasant experience on the 19:16 train from Brussels Midi to Paris Gare du Nord on 30 May 2026, which was also delayed by around 60 minutes.

The most troubling part of the experience was the attitude of the train manager (likely Turkish or Balkan ethnicity and bold male, standing at car wagon no.6 (if I remember correctly). When I tried to ask about seat reservations, I was told in a rude and dismissive manner that it was “too bad” I did not have a reservation and that I would probably not make it back to Paris unless I paid €120 per person, even though I already had a Eurail pass. He also said that he was not able to help me, despite the fact that three different staff members (seems like deflecting responsibility) had directed me to him specifically to explain how seat reservations worked and what I needed to pay. He is also at a near yelling tone with threats to telling me to essentially shut up.

I understand that seat reservations may be mandatory, and I was genuinely trying to follow the rules because the online system did not allow me to reserve seats for some strange reasons. Instead of receiving help, I was met with rudeness and refusal to explain the process clearly. What made the situation even more upsetting was that he seemed noticeably more polite and helpful toward Caucasian passengers asking similar questions. From my perspective, this felt racially discriminatory and completely unacceptable.

In addition, the station office staff were also unprofessional after the manager refused to help out. They were slow to assist the next customer and seemed more focused on chatting among themselves than helping passengers efficiently.

Brussels Midi station itself also felt poorly managed and unsafe. I witnessed people smoking indoors near the ticket office when waiting for the ride, and there were people urinating and defecating openly near the station entrance. The station has a strong urine smell in many parts, particularly near the bus / tram station. There also appeared to be many drug users and homeless individuals around the bus and tram area, which created an uncomfortable and insecure environment. For such a major international station, the level of cleanliness, security, and overall management was far below what should be expected.

Overall, this was a deeply disappointing experience, where passengers paying €120 per head (2 person) deserve clear information, respectful treatment, and a safe environment when traveling.

[This should deserve a 0 star]

A SNCB Conductor named Rudy(Train IC2842) to our rescue & made what could have been a nightmare into a lovely trip.
Thanks so much.

As a fellow Belgian…I must say put…

As a fellow Belgian…I must say our trains system sucks. Never on time…last minute cancellations with no alternative. Not reliable and yet the request for more train users. My journey was tripled in time due to constant cancellations on a bus strike day. If you can use another transportation means, please do.

Time issues and brainless workers ???

We went to the toilet before the train starts and the train platform had been changed last minute so we rushed to get our train on time and we arrived 2 minutes BEFORE the departure. However, one SNCB inspector, who was standing on the platform, told us boarding was done and his colleague, who was IN the train, OPENED THE DOOR to tell us that we CANNOT board and « it was not a joke guys » (????) while I was explaining we went to the toilet and begging him to let us board.
(We were headed to Maastricht so there is 1 train PER HOUR…)
Makes no sense, I still don’t understand the reason they did this. I get it, there are rules they have to respect but opening the door FROM THE INSIDE to tell us we cannot board ??? Knowing that the departure platform had changed and that we couldn’t check it.
Again a bitter experience; We, customers and so travelers need SNCB to take the time/delays subject more seriously.
I recognize this does not represent the major part of the SNCB workers but it pisses me off.

I would give zero score

I would give zero score, if possible.
I am fed up with this company. Only because they have the monopoly in BE, they think they can act with such disregard for the customers. I was trying to buy a FLEX ticket via SNCB App (seemingly only way to buy this product, never understood why). Money blocked on my bank account, however no ticket available in the app. Called Contact Center and they confirmed issues with the purchase of FLEX tickets. I was advised to buy standard tickets, which are more expensive and not reimbursed by my employer. A new way to make more money on the users' back?
