They don't need to "improve" it. Leave well enough alone.
Have used it for @ 10 years. The site has been ruined by quasi-geniuses who couldn't leave well enough alone, and just had to tweak it and do a "new and improved" version. Until recently it was very simple. Just like going to google flights or any other airline site, you would enter your point of origin and then desired destination. Point A to point B, offering stops C, D, etc. along the way, if desired. Now it prompts an open ended question: "Where do you want to go"? Ahh, starting from where? From where it guesses where you're located at the moment? ( E.g.,I live in upstate N.Y., U.S. near the Canadian border, and some computers, when I try to check the local weather, automatically put my location in Boston, Martha's Vineyard, Connecticut, etc.)
Update: I guess they figured that wasn't a good idea and returned to the original version, although not quite the same.

App unable to provide accurate recommendations for travel in Venice.
Look elsewhere for transport information.
Very polite customer support clerk sent an email with this advice:
“…please also confirm the exact ferry stop and onward walking/bus connection with the local transport operator before travelling, as Rome2Rio displays route information but does not operate the ferry service directly.”
This was part of a reply to my bringing up the issue of incorrect information given by app. Of course I am aware that Rome to Rio does not operate any transport services.
My point was it is unable to provide publicly available information accurately. One is advised to rely on local operators.
In short, one should look elsewhere.

Site only exists to extract value from its name, not provide value
I used to love this website and used it to plan complex journeys and it often helped out with ones that needed cabs or special transport. It was my travel go-to. Now it is a mess and it's hard to even set the time of travel or FROM and TO. It seems designed to only frustrate its users, keep them there for clicks or perhaps for ads. Sigh. How sad. Another one bites the dust. I guess another use case for AI (I hate to say it).

Can’t be trusted
I wanted to travel from Jaipur India to Amber Fort India earlier this year. I used Rome2Rio to work out how quick I could get there and how much.
It claims 15 minutes and $3. In actual fact it cost Rs.950 ($16) and took over FOUR hours.
Traffic was literally bumper to bumper and was S-L-O-W.
I wrote to the company in February 2026 and was advised it could take up to two months for an update to be made.
It’s now 26/7/26 and NO updates have been made.
As a budget traveler, I rely on sites like this to budget for distance, price and time. I can’t trust it for information listed. For taxi prices, it’s better to use a local taxi company (beginning with U and ending in R).

Absolutely useless. Most of the time when you search on a route it redirects to something toatlly unrelated. Particularly horrible in Latin America.

Company Techs unable to say when sharable information will be introduced to the RometoRio website. Currently unable to share a created trip and interactive map via URL (even when signed in) This would be a highly beneficial move since many folks like myself want to be able to share trip information and map with family and friends. This ability needs to be added ASAP to the RometoRio website.

Unfortunately this website has become useless, omitting information or providing inexact one. I suppose that now that it has grown, it has also become sloppy. Use instead local sources of information for public transport and local amenities.

I no longer use R2R
I no longer use R2R since it was acquired my Expedia. R2R used to just tell you various ways to get from point A to point B, Now it immediately redirects you to Expedia and assumes that you want to fly and book a hotel. It's now just another booking site. Shame.
