hi hello welcome to In the leaves, a newsletter about plants & place, ecology & the environment, mothering & living & land. This newsletter has its roots in a deep love of plants and my years of work as an herbalist and environmental educator, but it also encompasses so much more. Here you will read: stories from the land and garden, reflections from motherhood & business, musings about simple + intentional living, and more.
I’m hannah: writer, plant enthusiast, gardener, teacher, mother, wearing a lot of hats and weaving a life close to land on a sheep farm in rural New York. Maybe you have found me via the small herbal education business I’ve run the past ~10 years, foliage botanics, or perhaps you’ve ended up here some other way. I’m so glad to have you.
Originally from a background as far from earth-based living as you could think of, since my teens I’ve been learning and unlearning what it means to live in harmony with and in service to the land and sharing it all as a teacher of herbalism and ecology. Now a mother to two small daughters, my work as an environmental educator feels ever more important, the students even closer to my heart.
In the leaves is a space where I explore my journey—weaving my personal experience with gathered knowledge about the usefulness and beauty of plants, botany, ecology, living and working on a farm, parenting small wild children, being an imperfect human trying to live a good life close to the land. Occasionally I share business happenings, updates, & reflections too…
At the heart of it all, I believe we are all connected, to each other and to the land. It’s my sincere hope that sharing my experiences of the astounding wonder of nature and my own truth on living encourages greater connection, between us all.
Thanks for being here <3
