I’m a journalist writing about food, people, places, cities and culture based in Los Angeles. Most recently, I was a metro columnist at the LA Times, where I worked for more than 12 years. I covered local news and wrote enterprise stories on race, immigration, Asian Americans, the economics and policy of ethnic neighborhoods, food and and all things unique to Los Angeles. There, I helped create and host the Asian Enough podcast and saw a story I wrote adapted into a feature film. Then I left, and wrote about it here.

Lunch Box is a mostly free newsletter, with some paid perks. I offer as a portion of my work for free because of all of the generous people who have decided to support me financially. Your subscription will help keep it that way, so thank you. If you’d prefer to support me via a tip or a subscription elsewhere, I’m on Ko-Fi as well. Thank you!
