Welcome to The Therapy Room
Hi, I’m Vicki. I’m so glad you’ve dropped in.
This human life is a messy and complex business, and if I’ve learned one thing along the way, it’s that it helps to share it. I’ve created this space to offer musings and reflections from 25 years in the world of clinical psychology, yoga, somatic work, and trauma healing.
We touch on themes of the mind, body, heart and soul. You won’t find quick fixes, advice, or prescriptions here. What you will find are thoughtful, nuanced insights and learnings, weaving the personal with the universal, and drawing from my own tangled journey through the decades, as well as many years of walking alongside others on their healing path.
If you’ve ever wanted a peek inside the mind of a therapist (without the consulting fees) you’re in the right place.

A little more about me…
Born and raised in the UK, I found myself an accidental immigrant to Aotearoa New Zealand in my early 30’s after taking a year out and becoming seduced by the rawness of nature, the wildness of the ocean, and a simpler way of life on the opposite side of the globe. The land of the long white cloud opened me up to a connection with nature and spirituality that had by-passed my younger city-girl self. There was no turning back.
Growing up, I dreamed of becoming a journalist, interviewing famous and interesting people and weaving stories to share with others. Following the threads of my curiosity led me to a doctorate in clinical psychology, where I found myself interviewing people on a much more personal and in-depth level than I ever imagined. I am privileged to hear the most raw, intimate and heart-opening stories of other people’s lives on a daily basis, and through this to be opened to the healing and wisdom that exists within each of us.
A deep dive into the world of yoga and a yoga teacher training helped to join the dots between our physiology, psychology, and spiritual world. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease around the same time, and my healing journey led me further into the somatic and sensory world of embodiment. This brought fresh understanding and clarity about the influence of emotions, our early life patterning, and nervous system balance on our health and wellbeing.
Home now is in West Auckland, with my husband and two cats. In between gardening, walking, yoga, and devouring books, I run a busy and thriving therapy practice in Central Auckland. My therapy work weaves together all the different strands of my learning, integrating the grounded theoretical constructs of Western psychology and the wider spiritual perspectives of Eastern psychology. Here on Substack, I am circling back to my teenage infatuation with writing and hoping to bring a fresh voice to the world of therapy and healing.
