New dentist malpractice insurance, built for your first five years.
Why new dentists choose DentistryInsured
Up to 75% off year one
First-year rates can be up to 75% below the standard mature rate. Graduated tiers for years one through five let your premium ramp up as your production and pay do.
Full-limit malpractice, not a starter policy
You get a $1M / $3M defense-outside-limits form, the same coverage seasoned dentists carry. Legal defense costs are paid in addition to your limits, so they don't eat into the money available to settle a claim.
Bound in time for your first day
Send us your diploma or license letter and we'll bind coverage so it's in place before you see your first patient.
A broker, not a single carrier
DentistryInsured is a division of Emery & Webb, Inc., an independent agency. We compare dental programs from carriers including Medical Protective, ProAssurance, The Doctors Company, Eastern Dentists Insurance Company and Hanover, and match you to the carrier and form that fit how you'll practice.
Who qualifies
Our new graduate rates are for dentists who have graduated from an accredited dental program within the last 12 months, including the Class of 2027. That includes:
- New graduates starting as associates in a private practice
- New graduates joining a DSO or multi-location group
- Residents finishing a GPR, AEGD or specialty program and entering practice
- New graduates opening their own solo practice
Not sure if you qualify? Call us. Eligibility rules vary slightly by carrier and state, and we'll tell you which program fits.
How the first-year discount steps up
New dentists don't have years of claims history, and carriers know that early-career dentists see fewer, less complex cases. That's why first-year premiums can be so much lower. The discount then steps down each year as your practice grows:
Year 1: up to 75% off · Years 2–5: the discount steps down each year · Year 6+: standard rate
Exact discounts depend on the carrier, your state and your specialty. Your quote will show the full step-up so there are no surprises.
What's included
- $1M / $3M limits with defense costs outside the limits
- Consent-to-settle: no claim is settled in your name without your agreement
- License protection and dental board defense
- Locum tenens and moonlighting endorsements
- Portability: coverage that can move with you between employers
- Prior acts (retroactive) coverage included when your policy is rewritten
- Free tail coverage at retirement, disability or death
Employed associate or practice owner: do you need your own policy?
Many associates assume their employer's policy covers them. Sometimes it does. Often it covers the practice, not you personally, or it ends the day you leave. If you're joining a practice or DSO, ask three questions before you sign: Whose name is on the policy? Is it claims-made or occurrence? Who pays for tail coverage when you leave? An individual policy in your own name stays with you wherever you work. If you're opening a practice, you'll also need office coverage, cyber liability and workers' compensation. We can package all of it.
Moonlighting, locums and changing jobs
Your first few years rarely look like a straight line. You might cover shifts at a second office, work locums, or switch associateships after a year. Our new graduate policies can include moonlighting and locum tenens endorsements, and coverage that moves with you between employers. If you're on a claims-made policy and change jobs, we'll walk you through whether you need tail coverage or prior acts coverage so there's never a gap.
