Chaufa - A China & Taiwan-Western Hemisphere Newsletter

Hello, hola, 你好, olá! Welcome to Chaufa, a China & Taiwan-Western Hemisphere newsletter.

For those of you who have been following the China-Latin America and Caribbean (C-LAC) Dispatch, thank you for staying with us. And for anyone new to our work, thanks for giving us a read.

Why Chaufa

Much like a good Peruvian fried rice, this newsletter is looking to bring together both sides of the Pacific. We’re taking our name from the Chinese-Andean dish that migrants from southern China reinvented when they arrived on South America’s Pacific coast in the 19th century.

Just like a fried rice, we’re hoping to jumble together lots of news from China’s and Taiwan’s relationships with countries across the Western Hemisphere into a cohesive dish of a newsletter.

What’s new

Unlike the C-LAC Dispatch, we’ll be publishing multiple times a week. At first, this will likely entail round-ups of the latest news twice during the work week (mornings Eastern Time on Tuesdays and Thursdays).

To make sense of what happened during the week, we’ll also have a weekend morning special analyzing that week’s events (and round-up any Friday news dumps).

Expect sleeker formatting, a quicker read, and more in-depth analysis.

Going forward

Bringing together news and analysis, we’re hoping to become a more comprehensive shop for your cross-Pacific news needs.

Of course, this means that if you have any suggestions, we’ll be all ears. Feel free to send in any questions or responses to our coverage, and we might highlight it in the next edition.
