Welcome to the Bog

Bog is a blog that unearths images, objects and information about culture and clothes that you’ve (probably) never encountered before.

What is Bog?

In 2019 we started Bog after becoming frustrated that there was no publishing platform that reflected how we thought about the material world around us. Fashion and culture magazines felt too light, and lots of journals felt unapproachable. We wanted to build something that was in between: fun, yet serious about what we were doing; approachable, yet rigorously researched.

Importantly, we also wanted to be able to share news about stuff we thought was cool and relevant and interesting that *normal* magazines weren’t responding to. Which probably became the core tenet of Bog’s publishing: bringing our audience weird shit you’ve probably never seen or read or heard before, from both the past and the present. The result was three issues of a digital ‘magazine’ released between 2019 and 2023 all built by a dedicated team of web designers and including the work of artists, designers and writers with a hyper-explorable interface.

We started our first newsletter in 2021 on Mailchimp, which aimed to bring more of the physical into our progressively Covid-laced, digital-first lives. Thus ‘News From the Bog’ was born, a regular newsletter that kept both our editor and our audience semi-sane throughout the pandemic. Quickly, it took on an identity of its own, and more satellite projects started to emerge. A radio project with Montez. An ongoing collaboration with the vintage shop twos. Everything based around our love for garments and their many meanings, and a dedication to making the unseen parts of stuff, seen.

Become a Friend of the Bog

We are currently an editorial team of one, but have a burgeoning list of contributors for this new chapter. We will, however, need your help in being able to pay them.

In the next few months, we will be putting together some standard rates for contributors, something that will depend on how many people are willing to subscribe monthly or yearly.

We want to offer as much as possible without paywalling, but Bog can only keep going with the help of our friends and family.

A subscription costs just £4/month or £45 for a whole year. Take a look at the options here:

Ciao for now!
