I write about story, development, and what makes something actually work.

Some of these pieces are close reads of films and television. Others are broader observations about structure, character, and the gap between what a project is trying to do and what actually lands.

I’ve spent nearly two decades working in development at DreamWorks Animation, Sony Pictures Animation, and Cartoon Network, where I helped shape projects from early idea through to production. Over time, I’ve become particularly interested in the relationship between emotional truth and structure, and how clarity at the core of a story changes everything.

If you’re writing, developing, or just paying close attention to what you watch, this is a space to think through that more carefully.

And if you’re working on something and want a second set of eyes, you can find more about working together here:

Process note: I use AI as a tool in my writing process, similar to an editor or sounding board. The ideas and point of view are my own.
