What is this, and why should I join?

This newsletter is named after a quote from Dorothy Day, the Catholic activist and radical who said:

“People say, what is the sense of our small effort? They cannot see that we must lay one brick at a time, take one step at a time. A pebble cast into a pond causes ripples that spread in all directions. Each one of our thoughts, words, and deeds is like that. No one has a right to sit down and feel hopeless. There is too much work to do.”

Everything we do matters. Every action sends ripples. That’s why we’ll invite you to do something as often as possible and share it with others. It won’t be overwhelming—just a few simple, thoughtful prompts and links:

  • Something to Learn

  • Something to Do (an Action to Take)

  • Something to Celebrate

  • Something to Reflect On

It won’t be perfect. Some days, it might feel too simple or familiar, while others may push you out of your comfort zone. And that’s okay—this space will evolve alongside us.

If you have things to share or lift or ask, please email us at apebblecast@gmail.com.

So here’s to the small steps, the steady ripples, and the hope that comes from doing anything rather than nothing. Let’s cast the pebbles and see where the ripples take us.
