Introduction to Java Programming Basics

Java is an object-oriented, architecture-neutral, portable, high-performance programming language. Java source code files are compiled into bytecode class files that run on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) on any system supporting Java. The Java Development Kit (JDK) includes the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) which contains the JVM and class libraries, and development tools like the compiler and debugger. Java supports primitive data types like int and float, as well as non-primitive types like String, and includes operators for arithmetic, comparison, and other operations.

Java

The Java programming language is a high-level language that can be characterized by all of the following buzzwords:

Simple Architecture neutral

Object oriented Portable
Distributed High performance
Multithreaded Robust
Dynamic Secure

In the Java programming language, all source code is first written in plain text files ending with the .java extension. Those
source files are then compiled into .class files by the javac compiler. A .class file does not contain code that is native to your
processor; it instead contains bytecodes the machine language of the Java Virtual Machine(Java VM). The java launcher
tool then runs your application with an instance of the Java Virtual Machine.

JDK: Java Development Tools consists of JRE and Development Tools(Compiler and Debugger).
JRE: Java Runtime Environment consists of JVM and Library Classes.
JVM: Java Virtual Machine converts bytecode to machine specific code.

Java Data Types:

Primitive Data Type:

byte: -128 127

short: -32768 32767
int: -2**31 2**31-1
long: -2**63 2**63-1

float: 32 bit.
double: 64 bit.

char: Single Character.

boolean: true or false.

Non-Primitive Data Type:

String: 2**31-1
