#ParksWeLove: Croton Point Park CROTON-ON-HUDSON, Westchester County – Near the river's edge, oyster shells blanket the ground, with the oldest layers dating back 7,000 years or more. Known as a shell midden, the mound on this peninsula, built from the remains of countless meals, is considered by archaeologists to be the largest on the North Atlantic coast. It points to a long presence of Indigenous peoples, like the Kitchawank, members of the Wappinger Confederacy. Walk the shoreline, soak in the views of Haverstraw Bay, and discover more about this point's story: https://lnkd.in/e7EDcVic Images: Jeff Mertz .
