Accurate IP data doesn't happen by accident. The internet is constantly changing, and so is the information associated with every IP address. That's why our approach goes beyond public records. We generate data through internet measurement, validate it continuously, and refine it as networks evolve. Here's a look at the process behind IPinfo's approach to accurate IP data.

Every day, engineers rely on RFCs (Requests for Comments) that define how the internet works. From routing and addressing to email and HTTP, these standards are developed collaboratively through the Internet Engineering Task Force. IPinfo researchers are among the experts helping shape those standards. Our Head of Research, Oliver Gasser, co-authored RFC 9977, a new Internet Standard that gives network operators a standardized way to publish end-site prefix length information. That has real benefits for applications like geolocation, abuse prevention, and internet measurement. Contributing to Internet Standards is one way we help advance the broader internet ecosystem.
